1988 FIAT PANDA 4X4

KEY FACTS

• A restored example of the characterful and stylish compact off-roader, fitted with a number of Sisley edition parts.
• Under the bonnet is a 1.0-litre inline-four, which produces around 50bhp and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission with selectable four-wheel drive.
• First registered in August 1988, this UK-market Panda was bought by its previous owner from the Cairngorm Sleddog Centre in 2007, before being fully restored over the following eight years and used as a daily driver afterwards. It was acquired by the seller just under one year ago.

EQUIPMENT AND OPTIONS

• Although it was not built as a ‘Sisley’ model, it has since been fitted with several Sisley parts, including the steering wheel, seat belts, badges, bull bar, sump guard and decals.
• The car will be supplied with its Fiat manual and partial documentation of its service history, including various receipts and invoices for its maintenance. The vendor will also provide many spare parts, ranging from interior trim to drivetrain components.

CONDITION

• During its restoration, which was completed at the tail end of 2015, several of the car’s components were replaced with new parts, including various body panels.
• Overall the body is in good order; however there are small areas of surface corrosion on the front sills (behind the tyres) and rear wheel arches as shown in the photos, as well as a very small dent on the rear boot.
• Resprayed during the car’s refurbishment, the paintwork is in very good overall condition, with a few minor marks and blemishes including stone chips on the bonnet.
• This Panda 4x4 ride on the correct set of 14-inch steel wheels, which were restored and refinished in the correct off-white hue, and are in excellent condition.
• In the cabin, the seats, door cards and carpet are fully original, and show signs of their age, with some general staining, as well as a small tear in the base of the driver’s seat and larger tears on the seat’s outer bolster.
• As with the exterior, the cabin also features several Sisley edition-specific items, including the correct inclinometer, Sisley-branded steering wheel and seatbelts.
• There are no known electrical faults. While the seller notes that the brakes feel a little soft, they will attempt to have the system bled before the car is handed over to its next keeper.
• The most recent MOT test was conducted on 11 January 2021 at 82,194 miles. This resulted in a first-time pass, with advisories for play in the nearside and offside front lower suspension rod ball joints, corrosion on the lower nearside section of the car and deterioration of the nearside front inner driveshaft gaiter.

SERVICE HISTORY

Its last service was carried out in October 2020 by H.A Chalmers, which included replacement of the manifold gasket, spark plugs and exhaust system. Prior to this, McLaren’s Garage serviced the car in November 2018, rebuilding the carburettor and replacing the front brake callipers, wheel bearings, timing belt and the water pump and pulley, as well as fitting a new alternator belt and spark plugs.

During the seller’s ownership, they have also had the gearbox and engine mounts replaced.

SUMMARY

This Fiat Panda 4x4 is a smart example of the increasingly sought-after compact 4x4, which is presented in impressive overall condition thanks to a recent refurbishment. Featuring a number of Sisley edition extras, this example is even more desirable, and should offer many more years of faithful service to its next owner.
