1988 FERRARI TESTAROSSA - LHD

This Ferrari Testarossa is a striking example of the legendary 1980s ‘poster car’, finished in a rare factory colour scheme, and which is in excellent condition throughout. Under the engine lid is a 4.9-litre naturally aspirated flat-12, producing up to 385bhp, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 31,469 miles from new.

Bidders may have spotted that this particular Ferrari has exactly the same specification as the white Testarossa driven by the real ‘Wolf of Wall Street’, Jordan Belfort – giving this car an even greater visual connection to the excess culture of the late 1980s.

First registered in 1988, this US specification car was sold new to its first owner in California. There is only one owner change reported on the online Carfax history report, so it is believed that this Testarossa had just two keepers in the US before being exported to the UK. It was re-registered on these shores in June 2017, and has one previous UK owner on the log book.

Its bodywork is reported to be in excellent condition, with no evidence of any previous damage. The Carfax report from the US also shows no incidents or red flags. The white paintwork is in equally superb order, with a smooth and even finish. It has been detailed during the vendor’s ownership, but has not needed any remedial paintwork in that time. The car rides on the correct 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, which are in great shape.

Inside, the original seats are upholstered in tan leather, and have only some minor creases on the bolsters – commensurate with the low mileage. Its dashboard, centre console and door armrest sections are trimmed in brown leather, which have only a few very small scuffs on the finish. All of the main contact points are original, and the only foible reported by the vendor is a fault with the electric windows. Otherwise, the switchgear all works correctly, and the cabin looks every inch the low-mileage ‘80s icon.

The vendor reports that the car is in very good mechanical order, and that its last major cam belt service was carried out in September 2017 at approximately 30,400 miles. The most recent MOT test was carried out on 7 May 2019 at 30,944 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories, and the current certificate is valid until 25 November 2020. The wheels are shod in BFGoodrich GForce Sport tyres on all four corners, which have around 3mm of tread.

Accompanying the car is an original book pack in the tan leather wallet, including the US version of the owner’s handbook, the maintenance record, dealer directory, and consumer information leaflet. There is a good folder of invoices, which even includes the original 1988 dealer paperwork from Monterey Ferrari in California. The tool roll and jacking kit are also present.
