1988 FERRARI 328 GTS

This Ferrari 328 GTS is a fine example of the marque’s classic sports car, finished in the ever-popular hue of Rosso Corsa over a Crema leather interior and presented in wonderful overall condition. Under the engine cover is the 3.2-litre V8 from which the 328 takes its name, which produces around 270bhp and drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The car’s odometer currently displays 47,800 miles; however, this is now its second replacement gauge, and the true figure is believed to be closer to 73,407 miles.

First registered in August 1988, this original UK-market 328 GTS is among the last of the non-ABS cars, featuring the concave alloy wheel design. Well-cared for from new, it was acquired by its current owner four years ago. The appropriate registration ‘F328 SGC’ is included in the sale.

Today, the car’s sleek Pininfarina-penned bodywork presents well, and while the vendor reports that the front bumper and lower valance had previously been damaged, they were replaced by Kent High Performance Cars in 2019. The Rosso Corsa paintwork has a bright and glossy appearance around the car, though with age and road use there are a few minor blemishes to its finish, including some light scratches, small dents and stone chips, some of which have been touched in. Both the headlamps and side lights have been upgraded to provide improved light output, and their lenses are in good order. The car rides on the correct set of 16-inch Cromodora alloy wheels, which are in good shape.

Moving inside, the cabin is trimmed in Crema leather and is in impressive condition. The seats are clad in what is believed to be their original leather upholstery, and wear their age well, with some general creases and signs of wear on their surfaces. The leather-wrapped steering wheel presents well, though its original gear knob is beginning to crack. Elsewhere, the cabin has been enhanced by a black Alcantara-covered instrument binnacle, which reduces glare on sunny days, and its headlining and parcel shelf area have recently been re-trimmed in Crema leather. This 328 GTS is also fitted with a modern Alpine stereo with Bluetooth connectivity and an aftermarket immobiliser system. All of the car’s buttons, switches and electrical items currently work without fault.

Well-maintained from new, this 1980s Ferrari is reported to be in very good mechanical health. Its most recent routine maintenance was an oil service, which was carried out in March 2021 by Konig Cars. Prior to this, Kent High Performance Cars performed a minor service in March 2020, and a major service in February 2019, when the car’s cambelts were replaced.

During the seller’s ownership, a number of other mechanical items have been replaced as needed, including the clutch cable, distributor oil seals and exhaust mounts.

This 328 GTS’ latest MOT test was conducted on 2 March 2021 at an indicated 47,795 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with no advisories. All four wheels are shod in Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyres, which were fitted in 2020 and are in excellent condition, with plenty of usable tread remaining. The spare wheel was also fitted with a new Pirelli at the same time.

The car will be accompanied by its original handbooks and service book – featuring 24 stamps – which are contained in their leather document wallet. The seller is also including invoices for the car’s maintenance during their four years of ownership, as well as its full tool kit, roof cover and two sets of keys.

This Ferrari 328 GTS is a fantastic 1980s sports car, which combines an analogue driving experience and modern-era reliability in one stylish package. Fresh from a routine service, this example will make an excellent introduction to the marque for anyone who has always dreamed of Ferrari ownership, but will be equally at home among an established collection of Maranello stablemates.
