1987 RANGE ROVER CLASSIC HIGHLINE

An exceptionally low mileage example of the iconic Range Rover Classic, this 1987 Highline model has covered just 25,384 km from new. It is powered by the 3.5-litre Rover V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Given its excellent original condition and desirable specification, this represents a compelling ownership prospect.

Overall the body is in good condition with the Chamonix White paintwork highlighting straight body lines atop the desirable Range Rover ‘Tri-Spoke’ alloy wheels. The paintwork appears consistent and shows no signs of fading. There is only some minor hail damage noted to affect small areas of the roof and bonnet.

All rubbers, vinyl coverings and exterior plastics appear in excellent condition with little signs of ageing and no visible discolouration. The original headlights, driving lights and tail light lenses appear in good condition.

The interior is remarkable original condition with minimal wear. The seats and high-contact areas present little signs of ageing, and there is what appears to be original fabric and vinyl across the interior. The fabric on the driver's seat could benefit from deep clean, as there is a stain on the left bolster, though the remainder of the interior is in excellent order, and the factory carpets and floor mats are in place.

The vinyl dashboard and raised binnacle remain in great shape. The wood veneer trims are in place and retain a consistent satin finish, with no signs of cracking or delamination. Being an Australian Highline specification, this Range Rover Classic received a few extras for its 1987 delivery, including air conditioning, ‘Tri-Spoke’ alloy wheels, front driving lights, power mirrors, power windows and a radio cassette system. The Jaycar door speakers are believed to be a late-1980s period upgrade, while there is also a dealer-installed sunroof by ‘City Sunroof Centre’ in Rushcutters Bay, NSW.

The centre of the dashboard houses the OEM Range Rover cassette player and analogue climate control system in complete working order. The raised centre console shows the vinyl trim has started to lift, though this appears to be the only affected area in the cabin. The owner has drawn attention to some classic Range Rover nuances, such as an inoperative clock and cigarette lighter, and also that the passenger-side electric window does not work.

The last service was performed by Rova Range at 21,850 km, and the vehicle carries a current roadworthy certificate after the replacement of a wiper motor and alternator belt. Unfortunately, the original books are missing from the vehicle, but the condition and minimal wear across the interior and exterior is very good evidence of the low mileage. It is described as remaining highly original and driving beautifully.
