1987 FORD CAPRI 280 BROOKLANDS

KEY FACTS

• A limited-edition end-of-line Capri, finished in the iconic Brooklands Green and which now presents in excellent condition.
• Under the bonnet is the 160bhp 2.8-litre Cologne V6, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• One of only 1,038 Capri 280s ever built, with a limited slip differential, a full leather Recaro interior and 15-inch versions of the seven-spoke wheels fitted to the Capri Injection Special.
• Its original owner’s manuals will be included, along with a raft of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates.
• The HPI record shows that this car was subject of a Category C insurance write-off in 2002. The seller is unaware of the cause or extent of the damage, but evidently the car has been repaired since then. It has been in their ownership for the last 10 years.

CONDITION

• Its Brooklands Green paintwork is in generally very good condition, though it has small stone chips to the lower areas, and surface scratches on the front bumper, bonnet, wings and door mirrors.
• The vendor notes that rust was removed from the sills around seven years ago.
• The red and white pinstripes have a few imperfections, particularly around the fuel filler cap. There are also small scuffs on the edges of the doors.
• Inside, the grey leather upholstery is in great shape having been re-trimmed two years ago at a cost of £2,450, with only slight signs of use, but barely any wear to speak of.
• The gear knob inlay has a small crack, but the shifter and steering wheel are in good order for their age.
• Two large cracks are visible on top of the dashboard, and some of the surrounding plastics have faded slightly.
• No electrical faults have been detected.
• The most recent MOT test was on 23 September 2020, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

• The vendor reports that the car has been serviced regularly during their ownership, with its last scheduled maintenance taking place in September 2020. Technicians at Silver Street Service Garage in London changed the engine oil and filter, before replacing the exhaust gasket manifold.
• A mechanical overhaul was performed in December 2018 at Tickover in Dartford, where repaired various wiring faults were fixed, the end cap brackets and injector pipe were replaced, and other new items included the steering rod end, air box, heater motor, rear brake shoes and oil cooler seals. Bilstein front shock inserts were also installed.

SUMMARY

This Ford Capri 280 Brooklands is a well-presented example of the limited-edition ‘80s icon, which has benefited from notable recent maintenance. One of only 1,038 examples ever made, it would make a rare addition to any collection of modern classics.
