1986 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 3.2 SUPER SPORT

This 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 is a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine ‘Super Sport Equipment’ model, which has received an extensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration. Powered by the 3.2-litre air-cooled flat-six mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, it is believed to be one of 226 such cars in right-hand drive delivered new in the UK. The odometer shows 149,750 km.

The M491 ‘Super Sport Equipment’ option added the wider arches and 930 Turbo body panels to the naturally aspirated 3.2-litre Carrera. This included the extended black front lip splitter, black side pod coverings and iconic ‘tea tray’ raised decklid spoiler. It was an expensive but desirable option of the era, offering the aesthetics of the Turbo without the idiosyncrasies of early forced induction.

Alongside the cosmetic enhancements, the ‘Super Sport’ also improved some key mechanical components, including the axle brackets and stabilisers from the Turbo, along with the more powerful brakes.

The Guards Red paintwork is in exceptional condition after a bare metal respray in 2012/2013. There is no prior accident damage or defects in the paintwork and all panel gaps appear consistent. All exterior plastics, vinyls and rubbers are in good condition. The headlights, indicators and integrated driving lights in the lower valance are in excellent condition, as are the tail lights and reflective ‘Porsche’ strip at the rear of the 911.

The interior is highlighted by the optional sport seats with electric adjustment. The front and rear seats are covered in black leather with Guards Red piping to match the exterior. The seats are in excellent shape, with only some minor entry/exit wear showing on the driver’s bolster.

The dashboard and gauges are original and display no warning lights. All interior switchgear is in good operational condition, including the optional sunroof. It remains in its original specification, with the exception of a more contemporary Blaupunkt stereo, with CD player and Bluetooth connectivity.

The current keeper has owned the Super Sport for the past seven years. Originally a UK-delivered car, it was exported to Australia in 2010, and a major restoration was undertaken in 2012-2013 which included a full engine rebuild and the bare metal repaint.

A folder of all original history, including a verified statement of originality from ‘Porsche Cars Great Britain,’ authenticates the 911 as being a factory-specified ‘Super Sport’ with matching numbers engine and gearbox, along with the stated options. The original owner’s manual and numerous ownership and servicing documents from throughout the Super Sport’s life have been preserved and retained in an ownership binder.

The last service was performed by SSC at 145,000 km in 2019 where a minor fluid change and mechanical checkup was performed. No items of concern were listed and no advisories were marked during this inspection. Its rebuilt 3.2-litre flat-six is in great shape, with the cosmetic appearance of the engine bay still looking fresh. The original space saver and tool kit remains in place, with original carpeting throughout the front trunk.

This Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Super Sport is a very rare 1980s sports car, which benefits from extensive restoration work within the last 10 years. Now running sweetly with its rebuilt engine, and looking sharp thanks to its bare-metal repaint, this is a very well-presented car that should be a joy to drive, and a credit to any collection of Porsche cars.
