1986 MERCEDES-BENZ (R107) 300 SL

Lot Description

KEY FACTS

  • An appealing example of the stylish classic cruiser, presented in its factory colours and remaining highly original.
  • Power comes from the numbers-matching 190hp 3.0-litre straight-six, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
  • Subtly modified with Lorinser alloys and stylish wood veneered items in the cabin.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • The car remains in its original factory colour scheme of Anthracite Grey Metallic with a Mushroom Beige leather interior.
  • Factory features include electric windows, a heated rear window, and black soft top - and the car retains an original matching hard top.
  • It rides on aftermarket but period-correct 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels from German tuner Lorinser, which add a sporting touch to the exterior.
  • The cabin has been enhanced with a Raid wood-rimmed steering wheel and wood gear shifter, as well as wood veneered door pull handles.
  • A more contemporary Becker Mexico CD player has been installed.
  • The car comes with its most recent TÜV documents.
  • It was first registered in January 1986, and has been part of the collection for around four years.

CONDITION

  • There is no known damage to any of the bodywork.
  • Its paintwork may well be original. There are some stone chips around the front and some light scratches here and there, but overall the car presents in good order.
  • The brightwork, trim strips and rubber also appear in good condition.
  • Its hard top was not able to be removed for the photos, but this is being rectified prior to handover to the next owner.
  • Inside, the beige leather interior is in very good condition, with the only noticeable minor wear to the driver’s seat, plus some light discoloration of the carpet.
  • There are no known mechanical or electrical faults.
  • It went through a full inspection in October 2018 in order to gain the German historic plates.

SUMMARY

This Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is a great R107 roadster, which left the factory with a full leather interior and also retains the original hard top. A more sought-after ‘facelift’ car, this SL has always remained in Germany since delivery, and while it is believed to have its original factory paint and upholstery, it still presents in very good order.
