1986 MASERATI BITURBO SPYDER

This 1986 Maserati Biturbo Spyder is a wonderfully original and low-mileage example of the Zagato-designed convertible sports car. Powered by a 2.0-litre carburettor-fed, twin-turbocharged V6 engine coupled to a manual transmission, this car shows 67,685km on the odometer.

First registered on 15 July 1986, this Spyder has been in the care of the vendor in Italy for the last seven years, during which time it has been regularly maintained. The Maserati has only covered around 5,000km in that time, and has never been driven in the rain during its current ownership.

The paintwork is believed to be original, and looks to be in excellent order for its age. There is a minor dent on the nearside front wing just behind the headlight, though the impact has not broken the paintwork. A few front chips to the front end and lower splitter are present, but this is commensurate with the age of the vehicle. Barring the aforementioned dent, the Zagato-penned bodywork is straight. The chrome details and window rubbers would benefit from refurbishment or replacement to rejuvenate the exterior – though again they are thought to be entirely original.

The folding soft top is in good condition, with no reported leaks or tears, though there are a few bulges in the material, and minor sun discolouration to the rear window. All four of the polished wheels are marked or worn in places.

The interior wears its age with pride. There are no rips or tears to any of the seats, though the leather seats and central armrest have surface cracking and patina, which could no doubt be improved with a re-connolising treatment. The headliner on the folding soft top looks to be in very good condition, as is the leather-rimmed steering wheel and the wood inlays on the dashboard and door panels.

The most recent maintenance was a major service by 0-One Art et Technologie Automobile Bazainville during March 2021 at 67,685km. This work included the fitment of new fuel hoses, exhaust collars, new tie-rod end silent blocs, a new cylinder head cover, cam belt service and new oil and filters.

This Spyder was also serviced in 2016 by 0-One including a new right-hand camshaft, turbo valves, spark plugs, tubular heater, handbrake adjustment and carburettor setup. A new clutch was fitted in July 2017, and the differential oil was last changed in 2014. A replacement windscreen was fitted to 0-One in 2017 at the cost of €1,900.

The most recent roadworthiness inspection took place during the 2020 0-One service, and resulted in a clean pass with no warnings. The tyres are understood to be around six or seven years old, and still have plenty of tread.

Supplied with the vehicle is the original handbook in both English and Italian, a copy of the ownership certificate from the previous owner, invoices dating back to 2014, and a certificate from Maserati of West Europe confirming the authenticity of the car.
