1986 JAGUAR XJ6 SOVEREIGN 4.2

This 1986 Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign is a classic luxury saloon, presented with low mileage and in superb condition throughout. Under the bonnet sits a 4.2-litre straight-six engine producing around 205bhp, coupled with the Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 34,410 miles from new.

An original Series III example, this XJ6 was first registered in May 1986 and has been with its current keeper for one year, with just four previous keepers on the V5C.

The Series III XJ6 features bodywork subtly redesigned by Pininfarina, which on this car has flush shut lines, smooth panels and a wonderful resprayed blue finish. The paintwork is in excellent condition throughout, while the vendor reports the car received a new windscreen and rubber trims during the glass-out respray process. The car features a working electric sunroof, power-assisted headlight washers and a set of desirable 15-inch ‘Pepperpot’ alloy wheels, which are in good order all on all four corners.

Inside, the cream leather upholstery is believed to be entirely original and presents with some age-related creasing. The door card leather and nut brown carpets are slightly discoloured in places, and the lacquer on the walnut burr inlays have cracked and lifted in places. The cabin is equipped with a central trip computer, while the original stereo remains present, and no electrical faults have been detected.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken at 34,300 miles, where technicians at Historic Motoring Solutions changed the engine oil and filter. Moorside Garage carried out similar routine maintenance at 32,000 miles, with the vendor noting that prior to this, the car had been maintained at home by an enthusiast owner.

The most recent MOT test was on 9 December 2020 at 34,404 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The wheels are wrapped in a matching set of tyres, which are reported to be near new. Accompanying the vehicle are the original handbook and service book, along with a spare wheel.
