1985 MERCEDES-BENZ (W123) 230 CE - 55,597 MILES

This one-owner, low-mileage Mercedes-Benz 230CE is presented in good condition throughout, with only a handful of superficial blemishes. Powered by a 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, it’s a well-loved example of the two-door coupe. The odometer shows 55,597 miles. The car was first registered on February 4, 1985 and has had only one owner since new.

The Thistle Green paintwork is original, and it is generally in excellent condition, although a few blemishes can be found. A smattering of stone chips on the front valance have allowed a little rust to set in, while there are spots of bubbling on the door sills – particularly around the drain holes. The polished wheels with body-colour centres appear to be in excellent condition, except for one wheel that has a large scuff on the edge of the rim.

The cabin is said to be in excellent condition, with the Dark Green cloth upholstery matching the exterior colour and presenting very well for its age. The dashboard is full of well-preserved wood veneer trim, and the plastics are in excellent shape. Everything inside is believed to be original, including the Blaupunkt cassette player and the period heater controls. There is, however, a small amount of veneer peeling away from the glove compartment lid on the passenger side. Otherwise the car is free of rips or tears and there are no dashboard warning lights showing. The seller reports that all the switches and dials work as intended, too.

The vendor informs us that the car has been serviced, maintained, and garaged for its entire life, and that there are MOT certificates present for 2013-present day. There is plenty of documentation covering the car’s earlier life, with invoices for maintenance work carried out under warranty. The service book carries stamps for the first inspection at 852 miles, plus stamps for two following services in 1986 and 1988, by which time the car had covered just over 13,000 miles.

The most recent MOT test was on July 22, 2019, although the mileage was mis-recorded as 35,091 and the correct reading is 55,597. The annual check resulted in a pass with just one minor fault – a suspension arm ball joint dust cover that was severely deteriorated. The seller notes the tyres are in as-new condition.

The car comes with plenty of paperwork, including the original sale documents and service book, plus tools. The vendor has kept the original letters from the dealer laying out the order details and the specification of the car, as well as documents showing the car’s delivery and early services. The car even comes with the original Mercedes-Benz tissue box that was supplied by the dealer.
