This 1984 Porsche 924 Lux is a modern classic sports car, which presents in fair order for its age, making it a good candidate for some sympathetic refurbishment. It is equipped with a 2.0-litre inline-four cylinder engine producing around 123bhp, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.
First registered in July 1984, this 924 has been with its current keeper for the last four years. The odometer shows 43,010 miles.
The condition of the bodywork and Alpine White paint is reported to be sound, and it was resprayed in 2003, though would arguably now benefit from a refresh after 17 years. There are some stone chips around the front end and some light discolouration to the black skirts. The car rides on a set of 15-inch ATS alloy wheels, which are in good order on all four corners.
Moving inside, the black leatherette and Porsche script cloth upholstery is in good condition, and is believed to be original. It is understood that it has the ‘Tombstone’ sport seats, which present with some slight wear and discolouration, but appear undamaged. The vendor notes that the dashboard is cracked, a common issue with 924s, so the next owner could choose to repair, replace or re-trim. A modern aftermarket JVC stereo system has been installed, and all of the electrics and switches currently work as they should.
The last service was undertaken in November 2020 at 43,000 miles, where the car received an oil and filter change, as well as a new water pump, cam belt, fan belt, spark plugs and ignition leads. During their ownership, the car has also been fitted with a new fuel pump, refurbished steering rack, a new sunroof seal and a stainless steel Dansk rear exhaust.
The most recent MOT test was on 4 December 2020 at 43,010 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The wheels are wrapped with Maxxis tyres all round, which are in good condition.
Bidders should note that on the 2006 MOT test, which was a first-time pass, there was an advisory that some filler had dropped from the offside front chassis rail, and there is also a note that refers to a check sheet with a ‘seriously damaged’ marker. However, the vendor states that he was advised that rust in the chassis was repaired and on one solid but not very tidy repair, some filler had been used to smooth prior to paint. He has no other paperwork that suggests any evidence of prior damage, and indeed the car is HPI clear. Any inspection is welcome.
Accompanying the vehicle is the original stamped maintenance booklet and a collection of other paperwork as seen in the photo gallery. There is also a toolkit, spare wheel, and a number of original and spare parts as pictured below.
This Porsche 924 Lux is believed to be a highly original example, which is the recipient of an older cosmetic refresh, and which has just been given a recommissioning service after a few years in secure storage. With just some light restoration work to bring this 924’s paintwork up to a good standard, transaxle Porsche would make an engaging project car or a fun weekend toy.
