1983 PORSCHE 924 LUX

This 1983 Porsche 924 Lux is an unmolested modern classic that only needs minor TLC to bring it up to a very good standard. It is powered by the 123bhp 2.0-litre inline-four engine, which is driven through a five-speed manual transmission.

The car was supplied new via Dick Lovett Specialist Cars in Marlborough, and the original order correspondence and delivery paperwork is still in the history file. The car even retains its first registration plates.

Its Guards Red paintwork is described by the vendor as being in fair condition. There are multiple stone chips to the front end, and the lower valance in particular. Some of the exterior plastic trim would benefit from renewal, though the gaskets and rubber seals around the bodywork joins and glass appear to be in very good order. It would certainly benefit from a detailed machine polishing to improve the finish.

The door jambs, bonnet and bonnet shuts are all in good condition, with a good finish to the paintwork. Metal kick plates over the sills on both doors are non-original items. At the front, the light pods open and close as they should, and have only a few chips noticeable on the leading edges, with no signs of corrosion. The car sits on the original set of 14-inch ‘Tarantula’ alloy wheels (so-named because of the number of spokes).

Overall, the interior is in good order. Its upholstery of grey Berber cloth and black vinyl appears to be all original, though there is a prominent tear in the driver’s seat bolster. The three-spoke Porsche steering wheel and gear knob are both trimmed in leather. There are VDO gauges throughout, including in the centre console where there is also a Period-correct Blaupunkt radio and cassette player. All of the instruments work as they should, with no known faults. As it is a Lux specification car, the factory-fitted equipment includes electric windows, headlight washers, tinted glass, rear window wiper and electric door mirrors.

At the rear, the boot lining and carpeting is in good condition, with the original spare wheel still tucked under the floor. The storage bag for the removable sunroof panel has also been retained, and the factory build sticker is still affixed to the body.

The engine bay is generally clean and tidy, although the insulating foam on the underside of the bonnet has perished in places. An extensive record of service history accompanies the car, and its last scheduled maintenance was an oil service in 2015 at Toulmin Motors in Windsor. Since then it has been in storage, but the car has still been put through an MOT test every year.

Its last MOT was in October 2018, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The wheels are shod in a matching set of Nexen N'blue tyres in size 195/70 R14 all round, which are virtually as-new with more than 6mm of tread on each tyre.

Accompanied by a set of original keys, as well as a vast history file containing old invoices, receipts and certificates dating back to the early 1980s, this Porsche 924 Lux a highly original car that would benefit from some cosmetic care and attention from an enthusiastic next owner.
