1983 FERRARI 308 GTS QV

This Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole is a very well-maintained and well-presented example of the brand’s targa-top sports car of the early 1980s. Its 2.9-litre, 32-valve V8 engine with Bosch fuel injection produces around 240bhp in stock form, and is coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. The odometer indicates only 44,500 miles.

First registered on 9 November 1983, this original UK-market Ferrari has seven previous registered keepers on the log book. The vendor acquired the car in 2012, but prior to this it was owned by his father since 2006, meaning this 308 has been in cherished single-family ownership for the last 14 years.

Presented in the iconic Ferrari shade of Rosso Corsa, this eighties icon exhibits only minor corrosion under the paint above the nearside front and offside rear wheel arches. The vehicle has previously been resprayed, and the paint finish is reported to be in good condition throughout. There are a handful of stone chips to the front end, and some wear to the window trims, as well as slightly delamination at the edges of the glass. Some minor corrosion is also visible on the boot lid. There is a minor crack in the nearside front indicator lens, but this does not affect its functionality.

Understood to have left the factory with the standard front bumper, the vendor elected to install the deeper front spoiler, which is in very good condition. He has also fitted this 308 with the 16-inch Campagnolo alloys of the same era, replacing the original metric wheels, which greatly increases the tyre options. The original wheels will also be included in the sale.

Moving to the cabin, the Nero leather seats are well-presented, with no tears to the leather or sagging bolsters. The interior appears to be entirely original – even down to the period-correct Alpine 7279L radio and cassette deck. The Rosso carpets and floor mats are in great shape, and the rest of the interior trim is in very good order throughout. The seller states that all the switchgear works as it should. On a recent invoice, a slow window motor was noted, though this is fairly typical of Ferraris of this era.

Fresh from a recent service in August 2020, the 308 received fresh engine oil and had its cambelt replaced, carried out by Classic and Iconic Cars of Leeds. In 2019, the same workshop fitted a new battery, and made adjustments to the headlights and handbrake after the car came out of three-year garage storage under valid SORN certificates.

In 2013, a full strip and rebuild of the gearbox was carried out, including a new set of synchromesh rings, springs, bearings and seals. The differential was refurbished and new cambelts were fitted, totalling nearly £10,000 of work.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 20 March 2020 at 44,327 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. The matching Dunlop SP Sport tyres are in excellent condition, having only covered approximately 1,000 miles since being fitted.

This GTS will reach its next owner with the original books and cloth wallet, the tool roll and jacking kit, and the original spare wheel. A larger folder packed with invoices and receipts is also present.
