1983 FERRARI 308 GTS QV (EURO SPEC) - 11,994 KM

This Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole is a very well-maintained example of the 1980s sports car, with remarkably low mileage. Under the engine lid is a 2.9-litre, 32-valve V8 with Bosch fuel injection, producing up to 240bhp and driving the rear wheels via a five-speed gated manual transmission. The odometer on this European-market car shows just 11,994 km (7,452 miles) from new.

Initially registered and delivered to its first owner by Ferrari Rossenheim, Germany, in June 1983, this European-specification, left-hand-drive 308 GTS spent the first three years of its life in Germany. In 1986, the car was imported to the USA and registered in New Jersey in August that year with only 4,061 km (2,523 miles) recorded. The car stayed in single-family ownership from 1986 until it was acquired for export in late 2015.

Before leaving the US, the Ferrari underwent a full body and paintwork restoration, and was then exported to the UK. After arriving on these shores, it benefited from a full cambelt service and suspension refurbishment, and has since been kept in secure dry storage with Spectrum Motor Centre in Chester. All relevant import duties have been paid, so this is now an EU taxes-paid vehicle awaiting registration by the next owner.

Finished in the signature Ferrari shade of Rosso Corsa, this 308 GTS exhibits a deep and even hue throughout, with no signs of discolouration thanks to a professional respray in the US. The model’s period-correct badging and design features remain in excellent condition, with the pop-up lights and slatted wing and bonnet vents adding to its charm.

The front and rear light lenses and side markers are in very good order with no cracks or damage, while the chin spoiler and chrome grille slats are free of damage. It is evident that great care has been taken during the cosmetic restoration process. The Ferrari retains its metric-sized ‘Cromodora’ alloy wheels, which present well aside from minor oxidisation to their finish.

Inside, the Nero leather is original to the car, though has benefited from recent re-connolising in 2016 to enhance the appearance. The seats are in excellent condition showing only light creasing as befitting the car’s age, with no rips or tears in the upholstery. Contact points including the steering wheel and gearstick show virtually no wear, with the stainless steel finishes and plastics around the centre console and switchgear all in good order.

The interior switches are all present and correct, with this example being fitted with air-conditioning and a period-correct radio and cassette deck. The targa roof panel fits well and latches securely. The seller reports no known faults with the car, and that all accessories are working as expected. While the odometer still records in kilometres, the speedometer readout has a miles-per-hour fascia.

The 308 GTS QV underwent a comprehensive service in September 2016 at Spectrum Motor Centre (formerly GT Cars of Chester). This comprised replacement belts, and renewal of the suspension bushes to ensure the car rides and handles as expected. Spectrum Motor Centre has professionally maintained and stored the car since then, awaiting its new owner.

As the car is not registered in the UK, it has not yet been put through an MOT test. The wheels are shod in Michelin TRX tyres all round, with ample tread remaining, but their manufacturing date is unknown. This QV is offered complete with a correct spare wheel, toolkit, book pack, service book, a collection of invoices and a pair of keys.

Boasting exceptionally low mileage and well-documented provenance, this 308 GTS QV may well be as close as a buyer could get to a factory-fresh example in 2020. This entertaining sports car would make a superb addition to a serious marque collection, or could be a great entry point to classic Ferrari ownership.
