1981 JAGUAR XJ-S V12 COUPE

This 1981 Jaguar XJ-S V12 Coupe is a good recommissioned example, which is said to be in solid mechanical order and features an appealing British Racing Green colour scheme. It is powered by the 5.3-litre V12, coupled with a smooth automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 97,576 km (60,631 miles).

First registered in July 1981, this left-hand drive European market car is reported to have been in single ownership from new, and kept in dry storage in Spain since 2015. It was acquired by the current trade owner tree months ago, and has since been shipped to the UK, though it has not yet gone through the NOVA process.

Overall, this Jaguar XJ-S presents in fair condition for its age; as an ideal candidate for some easy improvement, or even for comprehensive restoration. The bodywork presents with a small dent on the driver’s door, while a patch of discolouration can be seen on the offside front wing and a very small indent is visible on the tip of the bonnet. The vendor notes that the bodywork is solid, and the wheel arches are in particularly impressive condition.

Some scratching and lighter discolouration can be seen on the nearside wing, and a few white marks are visible on the black plastic rear bumper trim. The area around the fuel filler seal appears to be slightly rusted, though much of the chrome body trim presents very well. The vehicle rides on a set of 15-inch wheels, which have some similar age-related blemishes, and would benefit from a restoration.

Inside, the tan leather trim is in good condition, with the most notable creasing present on the base of the driver’s seat. The remainder of the upholstery has an appealing patina, and the beige carpets are in good shape. A few light scuffs and patches of bubbling can be seen on the dashboard trim, while the centre panel features some small scratches, though all of the switchgear is reported to work as it should.

The car was recommissioned in February 2021, with the vendor noting it has been fitted with a new heater system, control valve, fuel pump and sender unit. The fluids were also checked and the engine oil and gearbox oil were replaced. Its last roadworthiness check was a Spanish ITV test in 2015. The Pirelli tyres are believed to be in good condition, with ample tread remaining.

This Jaguar XJ-S is a fair example of the marque’s V12 coupe, which has been lightly recommissioned since arriving in the UK. Reported to be in good mechanical order, it would make a superb cosmetic restoration project for its next owner, but could ultimately be driven and enjoyed as-is.
