1980 SUZUKI LJ80

KEY FACTS

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• The final iteration of the first-generation Jimny, the LJ80 featured the 800cc ‘F8A’ engine, which allowed Suzuki to raise the differential and gearing for more comfortable cruising and improved off-road ability.
• The track was also widened by 3.9-inches over the previous LJ50 model.
• This example is finished in the eye-catching hue of Greek Yellow, with matching interior finish and black leatherette upholstery.
• Its Certificate of Title will be included, along with a recent maintenance invoice.

CONDITION

• There is no known bodywork damage.
• The Greek Yellow paintwork remains mostly original, though several small stone chips on the bonnet have been touched-in.
• The seller notes that the finish has been blended-in on the front passenger-side fender.
• The door hinges and shuts are slightly discoloured, and there is some wear around the fuel filler cap.
• Inside, the black leatherette upholstery is in excellent condition, though some very light creases can be seen in the door cards.
• A few scratches and scuffs can be seen on the centre console and the glovebox lid. The paint in the load space has some small marks, but the boot floor area is in very good condition.
• The horn is currently inoperative, but there are no other known electrical or mechanical faults.

SERVICE HISTORY

• This LJ80’s most recent service was carried out by Abbott Automotive in High Falls, NY, where technicians performed a 65,000 mile service, changing the engine oil, transmission and differential oils, before replacing the coolant and servicing the brakes, and also tuning the carburettor.
• Before the car was imported from Guatemala, the engine, gearbox and differential oils were also changed, and the fuel pump and carburettors were rebuilt.
• The drive belt was last replaced at 64,500 miles.

SUMMARY

This Suzuki LJ80 is a fun compact 4x4, which is a very rare sight on the road, and is particularly eye-catching in its Greek Yellow finish. Offered in good mechanical order, it would make a great addition to a collection of Japanese classics, and an unusual alternative to modern off-roaders.
