KEY FACTS

• A smart customized version of the rare Scout Traveler, equipped with a contemporary powertrain, and significant driveline and suspension upgrades.
• Under the hood is a 6.2L (376ci) GM LS3 V8, coupled to a 4L70 four-speed automatic transmission and an NP241C low-range transfer case.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• Built from 1976 through to 1980, the Traveler version of the Scout II featured an extended wheelbase behind the doors, as well as a full-length fibreglass top with a hatchback-style tailgate.
• While the main body is finished in Teal, the fibreglass top is painted in a contrasting off-white hue.
• Its original diesel engine was swapped out around 19,000 miles ago for a brand-new GM 6.2L LS3 V8, coupled to a four-speed Supermatic gearbox and a Chrysler New Process 241C transfer case from the 1990s era with a slip yoke eliminator.
• The driveline has been enhanced with custom Spicer driveshafts, while the suspension has been upgraded with Atlas Expedition leaf springs and Bilstein 5100 shock absorbers. There is also a CPT drag-link kit and CPT tie rod.
• It rides on the correct 15-inch steel wheels, which are shod in BFGoodrich tyres.
• Other elements include full custom wiring with a Highway 22 wiring harness, a dual battery setup, Ron Davis radiator, reverse shackle kit and new body bushings.
• It is now equipped with a Max Bilt ‘Command Center’ storage unit in between the front seats, and a lockable drawer in the driver’s seat base.

CONDITION

• This Scout II Traveler was extensively restored in the past by Mike Ismail at International Scout specialist IH Only.
• The Teal paintwork is in generally good condition, with some flaws in the finish. Both doors have been repainted in the past, and the colour matching was not perfect, so they would benefit from being refreshed in the future. There are some stone chips consistent with use, and the driver’s side front fender has a small nick below the logo.
• Inside, the re-trimmed seat covers present superbly, with minimal surface creasing, and no wear or damage. The door cards and rear loading area are trimmed with diamond-quilted vinyl panelling, which is in great shape.

• There are no known electrical faults, and this Scout is reportedly running and driving very well.
• It was last serviced in August 2021, with an engine oil change carried out by Ace Auto Shop in California.

SUMMARY

This International Scout II Traveler is a fantastic custom truck, which retains a largely original aesthetic appearance, but which boasts a significant engine and transmission upgrade, making it one of the most powerful Scouts on the market. The revised suspension adds a sophisticated element to the 4x4, and it is evidently in very good mechanical order; now ready for many more miles in the hands of its next enthusiast owner.
