1979 HONDA CBX1000 SUPER SPORT

This Honda CBX1000 Super Sport is a wonderful example of a flagship sports bike. It is powered by a 1047cc twin-cam transverse straight-six engine putting out 105hp via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 14,882 miles.

First registered in 1979, though understood to have been imported and re-registered in the UK in 1992; this CBX1000 has been owned by the vendor for nearly 30 years. While it has been in long-term storage more recently, it has been kept in good condition throughout this time. The unusual inline-six engine is the defining characteristic of this CBX model, giving it very impressive outright performance in a fairly conventional package.

The bodywork on the bike is understood to wear its original factory paint, having never been involved in any accidents. There are some minor blemishes to the paintwork as expected from a bike of this age, in particular around the rear ‘fin’ and on the offside of the fuel tank, which also exhibits bubbling around the badge and minor corrosion to the lower edge. The chromed frame is also wearing an age-related patina, though this is commensurate with the age of the bike. The light lenses, trims, and instrument gauges are all in great shape.

The seat is generally good condition, but would benefit from a thorough cleaning and leather treatment. The engine also appears to be in good order, with no signs of any damage to the casings, pipework or ancillaries. The Jama exhaust was fitted by the vendor and is also free from damage, though it is showcasing minor pitting and patina in line with the rest of the bike.

As the bike has been in long-term storage with the vendor for a number of years, it is currently off the road under a valid SORN and without an up-to-date MOT certificate. However, the vendor states that fresh 12-month MOT certificate will be obtained prior to handover to the next owner, along with a fresh service.

The last service on record took place in 2012 prior to being stored, which included a full oil and fluid flush, along with new filters. Previous to this, the bike was serviced in 2011 and 2008, again involving renewal of the fluids and filters.

Being prepared with a fresh service and MOT for the next owner, it will require only a full ‘shakedown’ and some minor ‘TLC’ to bring this Honda CBX1000 Super Sport back to an impressive standard. As a sports bike that is all about the engine, this Honda will no doubt delight its rider and onlookers as its straight-six roars through the rev range.
