1978 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 1303 LS CONVERTIBLE

This 1978 Volkswagen Beetle 1303 LS is a pristine example of the beloved Cabriolet, presented in superb condition following a comprehensive restoration. It is equipped with a rebuilt 1.6-litre air-cooled flat-four engine, coupled with a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 77,505 miles.

This Beetle has benefited from a loving restoration, with the vendor noting it has been disassembled and rebuilt with new parts from the ground up. First registered in the US in July 1978, this Beetle has been in the hands of its current keeper for 25 years, and is now located in Germany.

The bodywork is all in excellent shape, and its Blue Metallic finish has been resprayed. It now presents in superb condition, with no sign of any scuffs or scrapes. The soft top roof is pristine, presenting with minimal creasing and appearing to fit very well, while the chrome trim and distinctive headlamps are in good order. The vehicle rides on a set of immaculate 15-inch wheels.

Inside, the cabin has been completely re-trimmed, and the black vinyl upholstery covering the seats is now immaculate. The door panels, carpets, seals and boot linings are all reported to be brand new, while the dashboard has been fitted with an aftermarket Pioneer stereo. The smart analogue clock presents very well, and no electrical faults have been detected.

The vendor notes the engine overhaul was carried out in April 2019, while the last routine maintenance was undertaken in January 2021 at 77,492 miles, where technicians at Westside Cars in Hamburg changed the engine oil and filter, before renewing the brakes. The car’s Radar tyres are reported to be as-new, with 8mm of tread remaining.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original service book from 1978, a copy of the workshop repair manual, and a raft of maintenance invoices – as seen in the photo gallery.
