1977 TRIUMPH TRIDENT T160

This Triumph Trident T160 is a fantastic example of the classic performance motorcycle, presented with an attractive Maroon finish and in very good condition throughout. It is equipped with a rebuilt and upgraded air-cooled 830cc three-cylinder engine, coupled with a five-speed transmission. The odometer currently indicates 13,844 miles.

First registered in March 1977, the bike has been with its current keeper for nine years. Earlier in its life, this T160 underwent a full engine rebuild – upgraded from 740cc to 830cc – and had a new digital ignition fitted. It was purchased by the vendor from renowned Triumph motorcycle specialist Alistair Hillaby, who acquired the vehicle in 2001. Mr Hillaby then sold the bike in 2002, though continued to service the vehicle for the next ten years.

The body of this T160 presents well, with the vendor understanding that the enamel, fasteners and black frame are all entirely original. The maroon finish is accented with dashes of white, presenting in excellent condition thanks to respray of the fuel tank. The light lenses, upswept exhaust and Trident badging all remain neat and tidy, and though the Triumph badging on the nearside of the fuel tank presents with a minor blemish, the bike remains in very good cosmetic order. It rides on rebuilt multi-spoke wheels, which are in excellent condition front and back.

The black seat remains in good condition and appears free of any creasing or tears, benefitting from a high-quality re-trim. The Triumph badging to the rear presents with some minor discoloration, but the upholstery remains in good order overall. The black paintwork surrounding the instrument cluster and rear-view mirrors is all smart, along with the mirror glass and various controls and switches. The vendor has indicated everything works as it should, with no electrical issues to report.

Over the years, this T160 has received new carburettors, a new ignition system, a new horn and dip switch, a renewed exhaust system, rebuilt front forks, upgraded rear suspension and various brake upgrades. The last full service was undertaken in November 2015, when the oils were renewed, ethanol-proof float kits were fitted for the carburettors, and the cylinder head was re-torqued with reset valve clearances. A new rear tyre was also fitted, and the fuel tank was cleaned and resealed. Other routines services were carried out in 2011, 2008 and 2006 with Alistair Hillaby.

The most recent MOT test was on 28 February 2014 at 13,823 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. It is now exempt from annual MOT testing on the basis of age. The vendor states that the tyres are in good condition, and the rear tyre was replaced in 2015.

Accompanying the vehicle is an excellent service and MOT history, primarily consisting of invoices from Triumph specialist Alistair Hillaby.
