1977 TRIUMPH STAG MKII 3.0 V8

KEY FACTS

  • A low-mileage example of the classic convertible, with a Tahiti Blue finish and various sensible modifications.
  • It is powered by the 3.0-litre V8, coupled to a smooth automatic gearbox.
  • The car has been extensively refurbished and presents in generally superb condition.
  • It benefits from a recent and comprehensive specialist service.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURE

  • The MKII variant of the Stag is identifiable by twin coachlines, coloured sills and a revised instrument dial.
  • This example has been fitted with uprated front brakes, with BCC four-pot callipers, Rossini drilled discs and Aeroquip hoses, along with a Lumenition electronic ignition, a stainless steel exhaust, a four-core high-capacity radiator with a Kenlowe fan and thermostatic control, poly-bushed suspension, a Moto-Lita steering wheel and a battery cut-off switch.
  • Its original owner’s manuals and British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate are included, along with a large history file comprising maintenance invoices, MOT certificates and correspondence from previous owners.
  • The car comes with an original hard top roof.

CONDITION

  • The front wings have been repaired and resprayed, while a small patch of the offside front outrigger has been welded.
  • Its Tahiti Blue finish is now in excellent condition, with just some light under-paint corrosion at the base of the windscreen and a small crease mark in the offside rear quarter panel.
  • The black soft top fabric has a few minor nicks in the material, but is still in perfectly usable condition. Its colour-coded hard top is in great shape.
  • Inside, the tan upholstery is in superb condition; still looking fresh after a professional re-trim.
  • The vendor does note a small tear to the nearside T-bar trim, some light cracking to the centre console’s wood veneer and a small puncture to the offside quarter of the roof fabric, where it has been trapped in the frame locking catch. The headlining at the rear has also shrunk very slightly.
  • No electrical issues have been detected.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 27 September 2017 at 38,364 miles, which was a pass with two advisories to monitor a cracked offside front steering rack boot and various engine and gearbox oil leaks, but these have since been rectified. It is exempt from mandatory MOT testing.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • Its most recent service was in July 2021 at 39,155 miles, where technicans at Fernhurst Motor Company changed the engine oil, filters and brake fluid, before greasing the propshaft, flushing the coolant and upgrading the radiator, thermostat, fan and temperature sensor, rectifying the oil leaks discovered during the last MOT.
  • Prior to this, an oil service was performed in April 2020 at 38,813 miles.
  • A reconditioned steering rack was fitted in July 2019 at 38,661 miles.
  • In the vendor’s ownership, the rocker cover gaskets, D-washers, oil pressure switch housing O-rings and offside front lower ball joint boot have been replaced, while an oil leak on a transmission cooler pipe has been rectified.
