1977 AUTOBIANCHI GIARDINIERA

This 1977 Autobianchi Giardiniera is a recently restored example of the iconic Italian supermini, which is based upon and replaced the Fiat 500 Giardiniera in 1968. It is powered by its original 499cc two-cylinder engine coupled to a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 45,995km, though this is not the correct total from new.

First registered on 25 July 1977, this iconic Italian supermini has recently undergone a full internal and external restoration during 2019 prior to coming into the care of the vendor in Italy earlier this year.

The exterior paintwork has been completely resprayed, and as a result presents in excellent condition throughout, with only a very small blemish noticeable on the inside of the nearside headlight. The chrome detailing and trim is in great condition, as is the roll-up sunroof. The wheels are in good order overall, though there is some minor grazing around the edge of all four wheels.

Inside the cabin, this Autobianchi has benefitted from a full refurbishment and re-trim in the correct materials, making this interior feel superb once again. There are some very minor wear marks to the door catches, pedals and other contact points, though the painted dashboard and roof are both in great condition. Thanks largely to the simplicity of the cabin, there are no reported faults with the vehicle, and all of the controls work as they should.

Underneath, the car is in excellent shape, and the photos in the gallery illustrate the quality of the restoration. The most recent full inspection and general service took place in March 2021 after the vendor took ownership of the vehicle, which included a full check of the oil, fluids, and carburettor mixtures. The engine is original, and has been fully refurbished as part of the restoration.

The current Revisione roadworthiness certificate is valid until 27 June 2021, and during the previous inspection no advisories were noted. All four tyres were changed for new items during the restoration process in 2019, and the vehicle is said to be mechanically sound with no noted faults or leaks. Included with the car are a number of Autobianchi documents and the original tool kit. The Italian Libretto and certificate of ownership documents are present in the vendor’s name.

Offering charming Italian design with an impressive load-carrying capability, the Autobianchi Giardiniera proved to be a popular and reliable vehicle in period. This recently restored 1977 example presents in wonderful overall condition thanks to a recent restoration, and would make a great addition to any garage, or a fantastic promotional vehicle for a small business.
