1976 RANGE ROVER CLASSIC 2 DOOR 'SUFFIX D'

This 1976 Range Rover Classic ‘Suffix D’ is a charming go-anywhere 4x4, with an attractive Lincoln Green finish and original Palomino Herringbone upholstery. Under the bonnet sits a 3.5-litre V8, coupled with a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 62,000 km.

First registered in July 1976, this early Range Rover has been with its current keeper for four years. As a ‘Suffix D’ model, it retains many of the early features that are often sought-after by collectors, including the no-frills plastic dashboard.

The rugged bodywork of this Range Rover is all in excellent shape, with the vendor noting it has been fitted with a new aluminium tailgate and new inner front wings. Its resprayed Lincoln Green paintwork is all in good order, with the exception of a few minor blemishes. The vendor has reported some light stone chips around the front bumper and bonnet, while the windscreen gasket is likely to need replacing due to a cut on its lower edge. A few cracks can be seen on the painted wing mirrors, alongside some flaking to the tow bar. The car rides on a set of 16-inch Rostyle steel wheels, with a few scrapes and chips around the rims.

Inside, the Palomino Herringbone upholstery is believed to be entirely original and has some age-related tears and creases, though the vendor reports that the front seats will be fitted with new fabric covers prior to handover. A few light marks can be seen in the door cards, alongside scratches to the black-painted door handles. Similar wear is visible on the dial surrounds, centre console trim and gear knob stalk, and the oil pressure gauge is currently inoperative.

The last scheduled maintenance was undertaken in April 2021 at 62,000 km, where technicians replaced the engine oil, filter and brake fluid. Prior to this, the car was fitted with new spark plugs and a new starter motor in 2019, before technicians rebuilt the carburettors and checked the timing. In July 2019, it also received a new A-frame ball joint and transfer box oil seal. During the vendor’s tenure, this Range Rover has also been fitted with a new alternator, battery, stainless steel exhaust, and a new clutch sender and receiver. The wheels are wrapped with Hankook tyres, which have plenty of tread.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original Spanish owner’s manual and registration documents, along with paperwork from the car’s move to France, an English repair manual, and numerous maintenance invoices – all as shown in the gallery.
