1976 MELKUS RS 1000

KEY FACTS

• An incredibly rare classic German sports car, presented in excellent overall condition and with several high-performance modifications.
• It is thought to be the only Melkus powered by a 1.3-litre two-stroke ‘Müller-Andernach’ V6 with three Solex twin carburettors, now producing 110hp and 133lb-ft of torque, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox with modified ratios.
• Weighing around 720kg, this RS 1000 can reach a top speed of around 125mph.
• In 2006, the car took part in a handover ceremony beside the Dresden Frauenkirche, which was featured on the German news program ‘Tagesthemen’.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• This Melkus RS 1000 features Ferrari Giallo Modena paintwork and a black and grey interior with yellow accents.
• Alongside its retrofitted engine, it has also been fitted with a custom hand-built Melkus exhaust, a bespoke electronic ignition system, customised instrument dials and a fire extinguisher.
• The car will be accompanied by a tool roll, a spare wheel and a collection of maintenance invoices.

CONDITION

• There is no known prior bodywork damage.
• The Ferrari Giallo Modena paintwork is in good overall condition, with some minor blemishes around the bumpers, sills and door handles, but with no significant wear or damage.
• Inside, the two-tone black and grey upholstery has some age-related creasing, and a few scratches can be seen on the face of the steering wheel.
• There are no known electrical or mechanical faults.
• The spark plugs and ignition coils have been replaced during the vendor’s ownership.

SUMMARY

This Melkus RS 1000 is a very good example of the 1970s sports car, boasting an uprated 1.3-litre Müller-Andernach engine, a gorgeous Ferrari Giallo Modena finish and various tasteful modifications.
