1976 LAWIL WILLAM FOURGONNETTE 'POSTMAN'

This Lawil Willam Fourgonnette ‘Postman’ is a charming classic microcar, which has just been treated to a comprehensive body-off restoration. Mounted at the front is a 5.6hp 125cc two-stroke motor, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 16,307 km.

Produced by the Lawil S.p.A. company - a portmanteau of its founders’ names, Lavezzari and Willame - the Willam Fourgonette was powered by a Lambretta scooter engine, and offered a good deal of practicality over its smaller microcar siblings.

Built in 1976, this van is recorded on the chassis plate as being an original ‘C2’ Fourgonnette body vehicle. The vendor has owned the Willam for the last six months, and it has just returned from an extensive body-off restoration to original condition in early 2021, which was carried out by small car specialist Fiat Linea Fresca.

Its bodywork and vibrant red paint finish are in excellent condition, with no prior damage to any panels, and with the new coat displaying a deep and glossy appearance. The exterior seals and trims also present well, while the correct light lenses and octagonal front grille are in great shape. The chromework around the van is also in very good order.

In the cabin, the simple dashboard retains original switches and a single centrally mounted instrument gauge. There are durable rubber floor mats around the footwell areas, while the bench seat has been re-trimmed in black vinyl and is in pristine condition.

As you would expect, the Fourgonnette is in fine mechanical order following its restoration, with an immaculate engine bay, and with the chassis, suspension, and steering having been fully refurbished. Photos of the bare chassis are also shown in the gallery, before it was reunited with its freshly painted body.

This Lawil Willam Fourgonnette ‘Postman’ is a wonderful classic ‘microvan’, which is fresh from an exhaustive mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment. It now presents in genuinely as-new condition throughout, and would be a credit to any collection of Italian classics or microcars.
