1975 PORSCHE 911 2.7 - PROJECT CAR

This Australian-delivered matching numbers 1975 Porsche 911 is original and complete, and now needs someone with passion and expertise to take it into their care and restore it to its former glory. Hanging out over the back wheels is a 2.7-litre air-cooled flat-six, which is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads 190,102 miles.

The car is a barn find that was put into storage in anticipation of restoration seven years ago. It is an original car, and the Porsche Metallic Blue paintwork is believed to be the factory-applied 1970s finish. It is now offered for sale in the hopes that it will go to someone with the time and enthusiasm to complete the restoration work and return it to the road where it belongs.

As can be appreciated in the comprehensive photo gallery, the body is mostly straight, but there are patches of rust throughout. The paint and trim are also looking tired in places, with rust, bubbling and cracking around the car. Nevertheless, it is certainly worthy of refurbishment, and it presents honestly throughout.

The story is much the same inside, although the years have been kinder to the interior than the exterior. The leather upholstery has fared quite well, while the roof lining, door card trims, and carpets show the most wear. Again, the car would benefit from repair or reupholstering to bring it back to a good started. A Sanyo aftermarket head unit has been fitted, and there is a Momo steering wheel, but otherwise it is believed to remain entirely original inside.

Following its discovery, the 911 went into storage, where it has remained for the past seven years. During that time, no maintenance was carried out, and the service history prior to that period is also unknown. The vendor notes that the car does turn over and start, but requires mechanical attention. Service books and manuals are unavailable.

The date and result of its previous roadworthiness checks are also not on record. The car is sitting on Continental PremiumContact tyres, but these are too old for use and will require replacing.

This 1975 Porsche 911 barn find has many admirable qualities that make it a solid foundation for a rewarding project, and a great opportunity to get into a classic 911. The vendor hopes that it will go into the hands of someone with the expertise and commitment to restore it to its former glory and enjoy it for many years to come.
