1975 FERRARI DINO 308 GT4

This Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 is an original ‘series one’ example of the iconic 1970s Italian sports car, presented in a period-perfect factory colour scheme, and featuring an extensive service history. Under the engine lid is the 2.9-litre carburettor-fed V8, producing up to around 250bhp, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 51,382km, with the vendor reporting the total figure to be 151,382km.

This vehicle was delivered in March 1975 and sold new by W.H. Lowe of Victoria, at the time Ferrari’s local representative. It has been with the current owner for the past 10 years and has enjoyed regular maintenance, and dry garage storage going back to at least 1986. The vendor reports that notable work has been carried out to properly set the car up and have it running very well – so it is ready for the next owner to jump in and enjoy it straight away.

Ferrari's first 2+2 mid-engined V8 features Bertone designed bodywork and is finished in vibrant red. All of the exterior lenses, mirrors and trims are present and correct, with the brightwork in very good condition. The owner reports the paintwork to be commensurate with the vehicle's age and use, but still presenting very well overall, with the opportunity for a new owner to consider refinishing the paintwork at some time in the future if desired.

They describe a few cracks around the rear guards and engine lid, some minor damage and stone chips to the front bonnet area, and a minor blemish at the bottom of the offside front guard. The car rides on the correct 14-inch magnesium alloy Campagnolo wheels wrapped in Michelin XWX tyres, while its four ANSA exhaust tailpipes emit a glorious noise from the V8.

Inside, the vehicle is in impressive condition with the owner reporting the beige upholstery trim to be free from damage, with minimal wear showing. The dashboard in the 308 GT4 is considered a particularly smart feature, grouping together all the instruments neatly and presenting a clear read-out to the driver. All gauges and switches are working as they should, with no known faults. The carpets and glass are all in good condition, with just a small tear noted in the trim around the driver's footwell.

Its last routine service was carried out on 16 March 2019 at Alfa Corse Pty Ltd at around 150,000km. This also included having the radiator re-cored, a full flush performed and a new battery fitted. Prior to this, a cam belt change and service including new belts, seals and tensioner bearings was performed in October 2016 at 149,000km. A new header tank was fitted, the front brakes overhauled, a new windscreen fitted, and the air-conditioning re-gassed among other work.

An extensive service history exists for the vehicle that includes a full engine and gearbox rebuild at 110,000km and a full suspension overhaul in 2012. The vehicle is supplied with the factory handbook, jack and toolkit; and included with the sale are all receipts for work dating back to 2010, plus numerous receipts from the previous owner back to 1986. The vehicle last underwent a Victorian roadworthy inspection in 2016 with no advisories or warnings being issued.

This Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 is an excellent example of the 1970s classic, with superb Australian provenance going back to its original import and sale via W. H. Lowe – with the dealer sticker still on the rear window. Presented with great history, and benefiting from a good deal of recent maintenance, this is a V8 Ferrari that deserves to be driven as intended, and as often as possible.
