1974 NORTON COMMANDO 850

KEY FACTS

  • One of the final Mk2 Commando 850s produced, benefitting from a full restoration and presented in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition.
  • It is powered by an 828cc air-cooled parallel-twin, which is mated to a four-speed transmission.
  • Built in October 1974, this Mk2 Commando has been confirmed by Norton to be one of the very last batch of five motorcycles which they produced without an electric starter.
  • Having been exported new to Sweden, it was first registered in May 1974. The bike then found its way back to the UK in October 2019, when it was registered with the DVLA.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This Commando has been resprayed in black with holographic flakes, accented by gold pinstriping.
  • While it is largely original, the bike does benefit from a front disc brake conversion for added stopping power.
  • The bike will be supplied with a certificate from Norton motorcycles confirming its authenticity, as well as its importation documents, invoices for its restoration, some documentation of its service history and two keys.

CONDITION

  • There is no known damage to the frame, fuel tank or other bodywork.
  • Having been fully resprayed, the black paintwork is in excellent condition and has a deep and glossy appearance, with no visible chips or scratches to speak of.
  • The brightwork and exterior trim items are also in great shape, and there are no chips or cracks on the headlight lens.
  • The black vinyl-covered seat is also very smart, as are the handlebar grips and switches.
  • There are no known mechanical or electrical faults with the motorcycle, and while it retains its original points ignition, it is described by the vendor as starting easily.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • This Commando 850’s most recent routine maintenance was an oil and filter service, which was carried out in March 2021 by The Old Boys Motorcycle Workshop.
  • Prior to this, the bike was fully restored in 2019, when the front and rear Isolastic engine mounts were replaced, along with the front forks and the entire electrical system.

SUMMARY
