1974 FERRARI 365 GT4 2+2

KEY FACTS

  • A well-preserved example of 365 GT4 2+2 grand tourer, delivered new to Australia by W. H. Lowe Pty Ltd in 1974 and registered in Queensland ever since.
  • The 365 was among the last Ferraris to feature a carburettor-fed V12, with this car powered by the legendary 4.4-litre quad-cam ‘Colombo’ engine matched to a five-speed manual gearbox.
  • It comes with ‘Classiche’ certification from the Maranello factory detailing the original or correct-type elements throughout.
  • The current custodian is the fifth owner, having enjoyed the car for seven years, during which time it was awarded a Gold Standard in the 2019 Queensland Ferrari concours.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Penned by Leonardo Fioravantini at Pininfarina in the early ‘70s, the design of 365 GT4 2+2 was considered quite restrained at the time, but its clean, understated style is now more appreciated.
  • Finished the classic combination of Rossa Corsa over contrasting Pelle Beige leather trim, this Ferrari also features power steering, power windows and air-conditioning.
  • The car is fitted with a retro-style but modern Becker Mexico stereo including phone sat-nav and Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Its wheels are shod in Michelin XWX tyres, as per factory specification.
  • The vehicle is supplied with original handbooks and a detailed record of its extensive service history. Original Ferrari tools are also included.
  • It is currently on a Club Registration (over 25 years), though the car will be sold unregistered.

CONDITION

  • This Ferrari presents in generally excellent condition for its age, with a light patina indicating sympathetic use and care over the past 47 years.
  • It carries an older repaint, which still presents well, but has minor stone chips, blemishes and small cracks in the paint under close inspection.
  • A particular highlight of this car is a recent complete engine bay overhaul to concours standards.
  • The Interior is original, and accordingly has some wear and tear. There are a few splits appearing on the front seats, and while they are usable as-is to preserve the factory finish, the next owner may wish to have them re-trimmed.
  • The door cards, headlining and dash are in excellent condition for the car’s age.
  • There are no fault lights showing on the dash, while all controls and switches are operational.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • This properly maintained 365 comes with copious paperwork detailing an extensive service history and major works throughout its life, including a recent engine bay refresh, and a complete engine rebuild in 2006. The car has travelled just 8,237 miles since then.
  • It is regularly inspected on a hoist and has only travelled 1,391 miles since its last service in November 2018. The majority of servicing has been carried out by the owner.
  • A particular highlight of this car is a recent complete engine bay overhaul to concours standards. Its distributors were overhauled and remapped; new air cleaners were fitted; the carburettors were restored and tuned; new high tension leads fitted; new hoses and hose claps fitted; all correct fasteners fitted to engine; cam covers and air cleaner covers were painted to factory crackle black; carburettor linkages plated to correct finish; new spark plugs fitted; correct orange FRAM filters fitted; oil changed (10W60 Castrol Edge) radiator hoses replaced; coolant replaced; new radiator shroud; new coils fitted and gearbox oil replaced.
  • In 2014, it also had an engine-out overhaul by a Ferrari dealer in Brisbane who replaced the engine mounts, oil temperature sensor, sway bar link bushes, lower shock bushes, tensioner gasket, sump gasket, pan gasket, cam cover gasket, and reconditioned steering pump.

SUMMARY

Delivered new to Australia in 1974, this handsome Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 is one of only 524 produced, presents in good order for its age, and comes with ‘Classiche’ certification. With its carburettor-fed V12 and manual gearbox, the 365 represents a particularly appealing combination for a classic Ferrari, and should prove to be a thoroughly enjoyable cruiser.
