1974 ALFA ROMEO GT 1600 JUNIOR

This 1974 Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior is a stylish Italian sporting grand tourer, presented with a gorgeous Rosso finish, and a selection of tasteful upgrades. Under the bonnet sits the 1.6-litre twin-cam inline-four engine, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. The five-figure odometer currently indicates 30,695 km, though this is not warranted.

First registered in September 1974 in Italy, this GT 1600 Junior is now seeking a new home with an enthusiast owner.

The vendor indicates both sills and the front floor panels underwent professional repair work some years ago, though the bodywork of this GT 1600 Junior now presents in excellent condition, with flush shut lines and no suggestion of any prior damage. The condition of the Rosso paintwork is described as superb, benefitting from a full respray and presenting with just one small bubble to the right of the passenger door handle.

Its chrome grille appears with some slight pitting, though the rest of the metal trim looks to be in great shape. The vehicle rides on a set of 14-inch wheels, which are in good order all round, with just some very slight imperfections.

Moving inside, the seats – which now feature retrofitted switchable heating in the front – as well as the door panels have been re-trimmed with Nero leather, which has only some slight creasing. The wonderful wooden steering wheel from Hellebore presents itself without any cracks. The car has been upgraded with tinted glass all around, and is also now equipped Magneti Marelli electronic ignition, a Blaupunkt Orlando MP46 stereo system, and a heated rear window. The vendor has pointed out some light mould stains in the headlining and a small crack in the dashboard trim, but everything is reported to work as it should, with no electrical faults to report.

This GT 1600 Junior is fitted with twin Weber carburettors, an oil sump guard and a main power switch in the engine bay. The last routine maintenance took place in January 2021 at an indicated 30,693 km, where technicians at marque specialists Fa. Alfa Romeo Arnst repaired some electrical faults. Prior to this, through 2017 and 2018, the oil was changed, and the carburettor flanges were replaced. The wheels come wrapped with a set of Goodyear tyres, which are reported to have 4mm of tread remaining, but have been described by the vendor as aged.

Accompanying the vehicle is an invoice from the most recent routine maintenance interval, some TÃœV paperwork, and the original jack.

This Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior is a superb example of the breed, boasting a tasteful customised interior, an attractive Rosso finish and a characterful driving experience. Presented in good mechanical order, this example would make a superb preservation project, and is a joy to drive on the road.
