1974 ALFA ROMEO 2000 GTV

This 1974 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV is an excellent example of the classic sports coupe, which has been subject to a full restoration and is presented with a sleek silver colour scheme. Under the bonnet sits the 130bhp 2.0-litre twin-cam engine, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 72,426 miles.

First registered in March 1974, this GTV has been in the hands of its current keeper for around 18 months. Through 2016 and 2017, the car was subject to a full restoration by specialist technicians at VeloceSport in Heckington, where the body was stripped, restored and resprayed. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt and re-fitted, along with a new clutch, wiring loom, brakes, exhaust, fuel tank and an entirely new interior. The car has since been lightly modified, and now features heat-treated GTA wheels, lowered EVAC springs and a Nardi steering wheel.

The Bertone-designed bodywork is all in great shape, and the condition of the resprayed silver paintwork has been described as excellent. Having covered very few miles since its restoration, the car now features no obvious stone chips or scuffs, retaining an attractive shine to both its paintwork and various chrome trim pieces. The 14-inch GTA-style wheels remain immaculate.

Inside, the red leather upholstery is in excellent condition, as can be appreciated in the gallery below. The leather-clad door cards are in very good order and the headlining is pristine, though a few light surface marks can be seen in the footwells. The dashboard and centre panel feature elegant wood trims, which are free of any major blemishes. The vendor reports that the heater temperature control is known to stick, and that while this GTV comes with a radio, a set of speakers has not yet been installed.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in October 2020 at 71,721 miles, where technicians at SGT changed the engine oil, filter and brake fluid, before fitting a new fuel line and investigating the aforementioned heater control fault, which is still unresolved. Prior to this, in March 2019 at 69,623 miles, STC Services in Stroud carried out a vehicle check-over, before bleeding the clutch, changing the offside front wheel weights, installing new nearside rear stub axle studs, and fitting a new nearside front brake line. In July 2017 at 69,184 miles, PJ Autos in Stone carried out an inspection, before bleeding the brakes. The vendor reports that alongside professional service intervals, the engine oil and filter have been replaced every six months.

The vehicle is exempt from an annual MOT, and its last test took place on 15 December 2016 at 69,068 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The Kumho tyres are all reported to be in good condition.

An extensive history folder accompanies the vehicle , detailing both the restoration work and routine maintenance, along with correspondence from the DVLA and the Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club. Bidders should note that while a plaque in the engine bay shows Tipo 105.21, this is understood to be a replacement label that was erroneously sourced with the number for LHD variants. As the correspondence in the history file shows, the chassis number is correct for a genuine RHD vehicle.

This Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV is a rare right-hand-drive example of the beloved sporting grand tourer, which has been subject to a specialist restoration and now presents in wonderful condition throughout.
