KEY FACTS

• A striking example of the ground-breaking French automobile, which benefits from a previous extensive restoration.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• A truly revolutionary vehicle at the time of its introduction, the DS features streamlined bodywork styled by Flaminio Bertoni, the first disc brakes found on a mass-produced vehicle, and the renowned hydro-pneumatic suspension system with automatic levelling.
• This example has been fully resprayed with glossy white paintwork, and the interior has been fully retrimmed with red leather upholstery, while a new right-hand air duct was also installed.
• The car has also undergone a mechanical overhaul, which included skimming of the cylinder head, as well as replacement of the gaskets, the water and fuel pumps, the oil pressure switch and the battery isolator.
• Furthermore, the vehicle was rewired, its starter motor and engine mounts have been overhauled, and the flywheel and clutch bearings were replaced and fitted with new seals.
• A modern, retro-look stereo has been fitted, with Pioneer speakers mounted in the parcel shelf.

CONDITION

• The bodywork has been fully restored, with previous dents in on the front-left fender and the driver’s-door being repaired before the car was resprayed.
• Today, the white paintwork is in excellent overall condition, with a bright and glossy appearance around the car and only a few minor blemishes, as shown in the gallery below.
• Inside, the red leather on the front and rear seats is in superb condition. The door cards and roof lining present equally well, and the dashboard shows no signs of cracking.
• There are no known mechanical or electrical faults, and all of the controls, gauges and instruments currently work as they should.

SERVICE HISTORY

• This DS’ recent service was performed by Citroen specialist Stuart Pekin, who changed the engine oil, the oil filter and the front and rear suspension boots, as well as overhauling the brakes, fitting new leads and replacing the flexible exhaust coupling.

SUMMARY

This Citroen DS 21 is a wonderful example of the landmark French vehicle. Presented in very impressive condition for its age following a prior restoration, this DS demonstrates precisely why the model was voted as the most beautiful car of all time by Classic and Sports Car magazine in 2009, and it would make a refined and sophisticated addition to any collection.
