1973 BSA B50 MX

This 1973 BSA B50 MX is a very smart example of the single-cylinder competition motorcycle, which has enjoyed a top-end engine rebuild and now presents very well throughout. It is equipped with a 500cc air-cooled four-stroke engine, producing around 34bhp, coupled with a four-speed transmission. The odometer currently indicates 970 miles.

First registered in the USA in April 1974, this B50 MX has since been imported to the UK and was re-registered with the DVLA in April 2005. It has now been with its current keeper for two and a half years, who has carried out a top-end engine rebuild, complete with new piston rings, as well as full gearbox and clutch inspections. It has also been fitted with lights and a horn, and is now entirely road legal.

The frame and body of this B50 is in good shape, and it is finished in a combination of black and silver, with smart red accents. The vendor notes that the rear of the bike has been powder coated, while some small stone chips in the frame have been re-painted. The finish is now in excellent condition and appears to be free of any significant marks, while a chrome-style Union Jack motif is present on the rear guard. The wheels are wrapped with Bridgestone Trail Wing tyres, which appear to be in excellent condition.

The bike still features its original seat, and the vendor reports that all of the handlebar controls are period-correct, with elegant Smiths instruments and a BSA handlebar cover. Some very light discolouration can be seen on the chrome handlebar trim, though all of the electrics are believed to work as they should.

The last professional routine maintenance was undertaken in October 2018, where technicians changed the engine oil, rebuilt the carburettor and reset the timing. However, the vendor notes the engine oil has recently been changed at home.

The most recent MOT test was on 2 October 2018 at an indicated 824 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. Accompanying the vehicle are six MOT certificates and some prior maintenance invoices.

This BSA B50 MX is an exciting off-road biased competition bike, which has been modified for road use and benefits from a recent top-end engine rebuild. In very good condition throughout; it would make a fun weekend cruiser or a head-turning motorcycle show companion.
