KEY FACTS

• An excellent example of the classic sporting coupe, with a striking Saffron Yellow finish and a re-trimmed interior.
• It is powered by the 2.0-litre OHV straight-six, coupled to a four-speed synchromesh manual transmission with overdrive.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• For the GT6 MkIII model, the body shell was revised to match the design of the Spitfire Mk IV, with alterations including a new cut-off rear end, recessed door handles and a smoother front quarter.
• This example features resprayed Saffron Yellow paintwork, re-trimmed black vinyl upholstery with red piping and the desirable sunroof.
• It has been upgraded with a brake servo, electronic ignition, stainless steel exhaust, silicone radiator hoses, uprated brakes, a rocker feed oil kit, poly bushes and a modified rear shock absorber bracket, which now allows the upper mounting to be bolted directly to the chassis for improved handling.
• The cylinder head has been modified to run on unleaded fuel.
• A re-printed owner’s manual will be included, along with a parts guide, a wheel brace, a jack, two ignition keys, two door keys, two rear hatch keys and one fuel filler cap key.

CONDITION

• Most of the body panels were replaced during the restoration, though no damage has been sustained.
• Its Saffron Yellow paintwork is in excellent condition, as you would expect given the recent refurbishment.
• The black vinyl upholstery is in great shape, with no considerable wear.
• A few light scratches can be seen on the handbrake lever, and the dial surrounds are slightly scuffed.
• The vendor has reported some tarnishing and pitting on the quarter light window chrome, and that the ignition key needs to be turned slowly to operate correctly.
• The most recent MOT test was on 4 October 2018 at 41,403 miles, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects. It is exempt from mandatory annual testing on the basis of age.

SERVICE HISTORY

• The engine oil and filter were changed by the vendor in November 2020.
• In Dec 2013 to 2017, it underwent a body-off restoration at Douglas Motor Services in Northampton, which included the fitment of a brake servo, refurbished suspension, and a new starter motor.
• The car also received the re-trim in 2017, and prior to this in 2015, the driveshafts was renewed with the correct Rotoflex couplings and bolts.
• In 2013 the body shell and chassis were professionally cleaned and sandblasted to start the restoration.

SUMMARY

This Triumph GT6 MKIII is a restored example of the classic coupe, finished in a charming period colour scheme. Offered in excellent cosmetic and mechanical order, it could be a great introduction to classic car ownership and would also make a fine addition to an established collection.
