1972 RANGE ROVER CLASSIC 2 DOOR 'SUFFIX A'

This 1972 Range Rover Classic is a restored example of the desirable early ‘Suffix A’ 4x4. Powered by a 3.5-litre V8 engine driving all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with both high and low-range gearing, this example shows 76,508 miles on the odometer.

First registered on 27 October 1972, this Range Rover Classic was produced during the last year of ‘Suffix A’ production, which ran from the introduction of the Range Rover in 1970 through to 1973, when the ‘B’ models were introduced. This particular example has been extensively restored by a committed enthusiast around five years ago.

During the restoration process, several body panels were replaced, and the car was completely resprayed in its factory white hue – though there some imperfections in the finish, which the next owner may wish to correct in the future. The lenses, the front grille and both bumpers are in great shape, with no sign of any damage. All four steel wheels are in very good order.

Inside, the cabin of this ‘Suffix A’ presents in excellent condition, transporting its occupants back to the early 1970s with style. There are a few imperfections to the original plastic floor coverings, but there is no damage to any of the re-trimmed seats and the headliner is free from sagging. All of the systems and switchgear work as they should, with no known issues.

While the vehicle has been comprehensively restored, there is no formal service history present. There is, however, a memory card with over 1,500 photos taken during the restoration process, a Range Rover owner’s handbook, two sets of keys, period advertising brochures and a certified copy of the original factory record from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust.

Owing to its age, this 1972 Range Rover Classic is exempt from mandatory MOT testing. The vendor reports that the car has wanted for nothing during the last three years of ownership, with only a seal on the power steering assembly requiring replacement. There is also a small oil leak which is commonplace on these early Range Rovers, and other than this there are no known foibles. The vendor reports that it starts, runs and drives very well indeed.

Having truly cemented itself as a ‘cult classic’ vehicle, the Range Rover Classic fits in anywhere from the streets of Knightsbridge to the deepest Cotswold countryside, offering style and rugged dependability wherever it goes.
