1972 MOTO GUZZI NUOVO FALCONE

This Moto Guzzi Nuovo Falcone is a robust and stylish Italian classic, which benefits from an extensive restoration around 10 years ago, and presents in excellent condition. It is powered by a 498cc air-cooled single-cylinder motor, producing around 26hp, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 48,001 km.

Understood to have been first registered in March 1972, this Moto Guzzi was treated to an extensive restoration by its previous owner in 2011. It has been in the vendor’s collection for the last year.

There is no known prior damage to the frame or body, and it has been fully resprayed as part of the refurbishment. Now finished in the original model launch colours, with a bright red frame and white body parts, this Nuovo Falcone remains in excellent condition, having been ridden sparingly since the restoration. The vendor notes a scratch on the right-hand side of the tank, and another near the back of the seat, but there are no other obvious blemishes. The metal, plastic, and rubber body trims are in good order, with the two prominent Lafranconi exhaust silencers stealing the show and having just two minor dents.

Mounted ahead of the ignition barrel are two original Veglia Borletti instrument gauges, for revs and speed, and there are no known faults with any of the dials or switches. The seat has been completely re-trimmed in smart black leather, and with ‘Moto Guzzi’ emblazoned on the rear.

In October 2020, at 47,890 km, this Moto Guzzi was given an inspection and service, including cleaning of the carburettor and air filter, electrical checks, new engine oil and oil filter, and new steering bearings.

There is little documented history prior to the current ownership, but the vendor has known the two previous owners for many years. There are a few invoices from the last service, and some pictures from the bike’s restoration process in 2011. Two old German TÜV test documents from 2012 and 2020 are also on file; with the latter taking place in November last year at 47,937 km, and with no warnings or advisories. Its tyres are around 15 years old, but still have approximately 80% of their tread remaining.

This Moto Guzzi Nuovo Falcone is a handsome 1970s cruiser, which found favour in period as a reliable ‘utility’ bike for Italy’s police force and military. With this example benefiting from an extensive restoration, it will no doubt prove to be an enjoyable and robust bike to enjoy at weekends, and would be a fantastic addition to any collection of classic motorcycles.
