1972 MERCEDES-BENZ (W114) 250 SALOON

This Mercedes-Benz 250 saloon is a great example of the W114 series, which epitomises a period of uncompromising quality for the luxury German marque. Understated but stylish, this original right-hand-drive example looks fresh following a sympathetic restoration. It is powered by a 2.5-litre straight-six petrol engine, coupled to four-speed automatic gearbox. The odometer shows around 49,187 miles.

First registered on 14 April 1972, PGF112K has just three previous registered keepers on the log book, and the vendor has owned the vehicle for the past six years.

The white paintwork is described as being in excellent following a full-body respray. Detailed inspection shows excellent attention to detail in the restoration with bright chrome across the bodywork contrasting with the deep shine of the new paint. The only imperfection highlighted is a very slight dent on the rear wheel arch lip. Its wheel trims present as smartly as the rest of the exterior with white painted centres set against the polished outer rims. Photos of the engine bay and underside in the photo gallery provide further evidence of the quality of the restoration work.

The classic red interior contrasts beautifully with the exterior coachwork. This vinyl trim is believed to be original, and is described by the vendor as being in good condition with only some UV fading to the internal door handles and armrests, as well as on the top of the rear seat bench. There is also some wear to the edges of the front carpets. Fitted with a modern CD stereo head unit, the rest of the switches and controls remain in good working order.

The last service was carried out recently by the vendor, with an oil and filter change as well as new front brake pads. Other maintenance during his ownership has included fitment of new Weber carburettors, a new ignition coil to support a 123 electronic distributor, together with new plugs and genuine HT leads. New front brake callipers have also been fitted.

Now MOT exempt, the vehicle was last presented for test on 7 January 2012 at 49,134 miles, and there were no advisories recorded at that time. Online MOT records going back to 2006 show the odometer reading at this point was 48,285 miles. The tyres have not been replaced during vendor’s ownership, so they may benefit from renewal of the basis of age in the near future.

Fresh from a restoration of the body and paintwork, as well as some evident attention to the mechanicals, this beautiful Mercedes-Benz 250 saloon is a fitting testament to the marque’s superb build quality and legendary engineering. Understood to have had just four owners from new, this presents as a prime opportunity to acquire a cherished classic Mercedes-Benz that is ready for drive and enjoy.
