1972 FIAT 500L 'LUSSO'

KEY FACTS

• A charming classic city car, with gorgeous colour scheme and which has been in single family ownership from new.
• It is powered by the 18bhp 499cc engine, which drives the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
• Originally based in Borca di Cadore near the Cortina d'Ampezzo ski resort, it was used as family transport for small trips around the country for around 30 years. Approximately 20 years ago, it was brought to Puglia with the family, and was used in a similar manner until the decision was made to refurbish the car eight years ago.
• It was then comprehensively restored and has been used sparingly since, also benefiting from secure indoor storage.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• The ‘Lusso’ model featured chrome bumper overriders, rectangular tail lights and ribbed vinyl seats and door panels.
• This example features the desirable retracting soft-top roof.
• Its original toolkit and jack will be included.

CONDITION

• No known bodywork damage.
• Its Dark Blue paintwork is in excellent condition, though a few small imperfections have been noted, including small stone chips on the front end.
• The front-right drip tray is slightly rusted, and there are some small bubbles near the lower section of the rear window.
• Inside, its tan upholstery is in very good shape, presenting with only some very light surface wear and signs of use.
• The steering wheel centre badge is cracked.
• No electrical faults have been detected.

SERVICE HISTORY

Its last routine service was in July 2019 at around 94,000 km, where technicians at a workshop in San Vito dei Normanni, Italy changed the engine oil, brake fluid and shock absorbers.

SUMMARY

This Fiat 500 ‘Lusso’ is a very good example of the perennially popular Italian classic, which was comprehensively restored eight years ago. It has a charming history of single family ownership from new, initially being used in the Veneto region, before moving south to Puglia in service with the same family. Following the restoration, it has been used for short trips and has always been parked in the garage, sheltered from the elements. Now in generally excellent condition for its age, it would make a charming addition to any garage, and an enjoyable city car with its compact proportions and robust mechanicals.
