1972 CHEVROLET CORVETTE STINGRAY (C3)

This 1972 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is a well-maintained classic muscle car, which boasts a number of track-oriented upgrades and a retro two-tone colour scheme. Under the bonnet sits the 454ci (7.4-litre) V8 producing up to 270bhp and 390lb-ft of torque, coupled with a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 31,341 miles, though this is not warranted.

Currently unregistered, and used as a classic track experience car, this Corvette has been in the hands of its current keeper for four years.

This Stingray’s bodywork is all in good order, while the condition of the resprayed two-tone orange and white paintwork has been described as good. The vendor indicates the car has some age-related stone chips and surface blemishes, though these are primarily on the front end, with the rest of the paintwork retaining a smooth appearance. The removable roof appears to fit well, while the 15-inch wheels are in generally good order.

Inside, the grey cloth upholstery is described as being in fair condition, and though it has been completely re-trimmed, the vendor notes it was built for purpose rather than style or originality. It now presents with some creasing and discolouration, while the door cards and dashboard trim have some light scratches, and the carpeting in the rear is well worn. The door shuts have evidence of the previous respray, and some general blemishes, while the finished on the metal sill tread plates has deteriorated. The vendor notes that the original dials were inaccurate and replaced with aftermarket alternatives, though the speedometer currently does not work.

This Corvette has been fitted with an upgraded differential, as well as a new water pump, starter motor, wiring loom, radiator and cooling system; along with new brake discs, callipers and lines all round. An MSD ignition and coil have also been installed, while the gearbox has been refurbished.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in February 2021 at 34,000 miles, where technicians at Blendini Motorsport in Pontyclun changed the engine oil and filter, before giving the car a check over. The vendor reports the car is checked every two weeks, and serviced monthly given its regular track use. The wheels are fitted with non-matching tyres, though they are reported to be in good condition.

This Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is an eminently usable example of the iconic American classic, which has been well maintained by its current owner and operator. While the next owner could choose to continue using this muscle car as a track-focused toy, it would make a great foundation for a sympathetic restoration, to be brought back to a more original specification inside and re-registered for the road.
