1971 TRIUMPH STAG

KEY FACTS

  • A wonderful, fully restored example of the popular British classic, presented in superb condition.
  • Under the bonnet is the car’s original 3.0-litre V8, which drives the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission.
  • First registered in May 1971, this Stag was treated to a ‘nut and bolt’ restoration in 2016, after being acquired by its current owner.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • It is finished in the appealing hue of Damson over a Saddle Tan vinyl interior, which has since been fully reupholstered in high-grade grey leather and is accented by burl walnut trim.
  • The HPI record indicates a change of colour from green in March 1992, though the original colour in 1971 was Damson.
  • It rides on the correct set of 14-inch alloy wheels, which are in great shape.
  • Entertainment is provided via a retro-styled modern stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, and a remote central locking system has also been fitted for added convenience.
  • The car will be accompanied by documentation of its restoration, a copy of its factory production trace record supplied by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust and a number of its past MOT test certificates.
  • The seller is also including its factory hardtop with stand and cover.

CONDITION

  • Fully restored in 2016 by a classic car specialist ERAS Customs and Classics over the course of 1,000 hours, the car is now in excellent condition throughout.
  • Stripped back to bare metal and repaired where necessary, the bodywork now shows no signs of damage or corrosion.
  • Freshly painted when the car was restored, the Damson finish presents very well indeed, with no significant blemishes, and only some very light swirl marks noted.
  • The exterior trim and brightwork is also very smart, and while there is some wear on the bumpers and intake vents, this is minor, and does not detract from the car’s impressive overall appearance.
  • The black convertible hood fits well, and there are no rips or tears to its fabric or splits in the flexible plastic rear window.
  • Fully retrimmed in grey leather, the cabin is in superb order, with no signs of wear on the seats.
  • There are no known electrical or mechanical issues.
  • Exempt due to its age, the car’s last MOT test was conducted on 20 May 2017, resulting in a clean first-time pass.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • This Stag’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out by the seller - a fully qualified automotive engineer - in June 2021. A general service, this included an oil and filter change, as well as cleaning and adjustment of the spark plugs, replacement of the brake master cylinder and renewal of the anti-freeze.
  • 200 miles prior, the car was serviced by Station Garage, who changed the air, fuel and oil filters, replaced the spark plugs, and reset the timing.
  • During the seller’s ownership they have had the car fully restored, including renewal of the suspension, brakes and exhaust, among other items.
