1971 MERCEDES-BENZ (W114) 250 CE

This Mercedes-Benz 250 CE is a beautifully restored classic German coupe, finished in a period-perfect colour scheme, and which benefits from the coveted ASI Targa Oro certification. It is powered by a 147bhp 2.5-litre straight-six, coupled to a four-speed floor-shift manual transmission that drives the rear wheels. The odometer shows 139,021 km.

First registered in 1971, this 250 CE remains remarkably original, which is confirmed by its ‘3° Grado’ classification from ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano), showing a car that remains true to its factory specifications. There are therefore no modifications or upgrades. The vendor has owned the car for the last year, and states that it is understood to have just two private owners; the first from 1971 to 1997, and the second from then until last year.

The bodywork of this Mercedes-Benz is completely accident-free and rust-free. Its panels are straight and smooth, with impressive shut lines and panel gaps. It is finished in a wonderful hue of Metallic Gold, which has a stunning finish that has very few imperfections; the vendor noting only some minor scratches on the boot lid. All of the metal exterior trims are also in great shape, and the underside of the car is remarkably clean - as the photo gallery shows. It rides on a set of 14-inch wheels with colour-coded hubcaps, which have only minor blemishes in a few places around the rims.

Stepping inside, it is believed that the upholstery in this Mercedes-Benz remains original, yet it remains in superb order throughout. The brown vinyl and cloth trim presents very well, showing only minor discolouration and wear to the driver’s seat base. The front passenger seat and the rear bench appear to have been hardly used, and the material around the door cards is all in good order. Looking above, there is no apparent damage or sagging in the headliner, and both the dashboard and the wood inlays appear entirely original and very well preserved. There are no known faults with any of the switchgear or electrics.

At approximately 138,500 km, Officina Motors and Passion in Italy carried out an engine oil and filter change. Prior to this, it is also understood to have had oil change services in May 2017 and March 2013, when the odometer stood at 136,520 km. The 2017 service also included new brake fluid and coolant.

The last roadworthiness check was carried out in June 2019, but the vendor states that they will put the car through another test before handover to the next owner. The tyres are matching Firestone items, and appear to be in good order.
