1971 ALFA ROMEO GIULIA SPRINT GTA-P TRIBUTE

KEY FACTS

  • A characterful Alfa Romeo that has been converted to Giulia Sprint GTA-P ‘tribute’ specification, which features an uprated engine and many other upgrades.
  • It is now powered by a 2.0-litre twin-cam ‘Nord’ engine, producing around 160bhp, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox.
  • The car is now a fun homage to the ultra-lightweight GTA-P racer prepared by Autodelta in 1967.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • The build was based upon an original UK-market right-hand drive 1750 GT Veloce, which was first registered in 1971; and which had only one previous registered keeper.
  • Previously red, the car was resprayed gold recently.
  • On the outside, it features Alfapanels fibreglass lightweight front and rear wings, front and rear panels, doors, boot lid, bonnet, boot floor and underwing splash plates – as well as a fibreglass GTA-type grille and headlight surrounds.
  • The car wears a set of period correct 14-inch Momo alloy wheels.
  • The chassis has been strengthened ensuring the sills are not load-bearing.
  • The vendor notes that the underside of the car has been coated in Gladiator under seal.
  • Its 2.0-litre ‘Nord’ engine comprises Weber 45 DCOE carburettors, a ported head and air intake to suit the carbs, Cosworth pistons and liners, high lift cams and larger valves.
  • It is linked to a stainless steel Alfaholics exhaust system, a lightened alloy flywheel and sends power to the road through and uprated Quaife limited slip differential.
  • The car is also fitted with electronic ignition, electric windscreen washers, an Alfaholics alloy ‘T bar’, adjustable top arms, a lightened starter motor and alternator and an alloy radiator with an upgraded Kenlowe fan.
  • It features Alfaholics small front suspension springs, specially made adjustable shock absorbers to suit the weight of the car, a 29mm anti roll bar and lightened spring pans and trailing link arms.
  • The car has a four-piston ventilated brake system on the front wheels and new drilled and grooved discs on the rear wheels.
  • Inside, the car features a sports steering wheel and gear knob.
  • The car comes with many invoices for the work above, and the V5 document.
  • A standard fibreglass bonnet from Alfapanels can also be supplied, if preferred.

CONDITION

  • No known bodywork damage. The shell has been modified from the original GTV style with added strengthening plus lightweight fibreglass panels as described.
  • Its resprayed Gold paintwork is in fair overall condition, with a few minor blemishes and scuffs on the rear wing. The vendor notes that the car would benefit from a full respray.
  • Small stone chips can be seen on the bonnet, front wheel arches and the front valance. There is also a mark on the passenger-side window.
  • The interior is in good order overall. There is a tear on the driver’s seat, and the vendor notes that the door cards, parcel shelf and carpets are not original. The seats are believed to be 105-series originals, and are in good order showing minor wear.
  • There are no known faults with the car, and no warning lights on the dashboard.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 3 September 2020 at 59,770 miles, which was a clean pass after an incorrect front number plate was fixed.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • While there is no formal service history, this Alfa Romeo has been well maintained by the seller.
  • The last service was carried out at 60,753 miles by the owner, which consisted of an oil and filter change.
  • Prior to this the car was serviced approximately 18 months ago, at the time of the car’s full mechanical rebuild, with an oil and filter change, and new brake fluid.
