1971 ALFA ROMEO 1750 GT VELOCE

This Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV series 2 is a wonderful classic Italian coupe, benefiting from a respray and interior retrim to present in good condition. It is powered by a 1.8-litre twin-cam inline-four, which produces around 120bhp and drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads 63,000 miles.

Launched in 1967 as the successor to the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce and featuring a host of updates and modifications, the 1750 GTV has become one of the most sought-after of the 105 series Alfa's. With chassis improvements, a larger capacity engine and a higher ratio final drive, the 1750 GTV is faster and more tractable than its predecessor. Having been first registered in 1972, this example has been with the current vendor for the past 10 years and sports a period Webasto sunroof.

The exterior of the vehicle presents in good condition having undergone a respray in the Rosso Amaranto colour scheme some 15 years ago. The owner reports it to have been a near-complete respray with a few small areas omitted in the engine bay, and showing some minor overspray elsewhere. It still looks very smart, with only minor stone chips and scratches, commensurate with the road use and time passed since the refurbishment. The brightwork is in good order, and the Webasto sunroof gives the car another dimension in warmer weather.

Inside, the vehicle is in good condition as well, the cabin having been retrimmed in a stunning tan upholstery, making for a superb contrast to the exterior paint. Both front and rear seats present very well with no tears or stain marks. The three-spoke Alfa steering wheel remains and the door cards, dash and centre console are all in very good condition. The vendor reports that the door hinges would benefit from replacement and slight adjustment, but this would be an inexpensive improvement to make. There is no damage of note, with all gauges, switches and controls working as they should.

Powering the 1750 GTV is the 1.8-litre twin-cam inline-four with that distinctive valve cover immediately catching your eye. The last routine maintenance was conducted in May 2021 from Total Auto, a European Car specialist in Victoria, and before that in August 2020 at Mauceri Motors, an Alfa Romeo specialist in, Victoria. In addition to the regular servicing, a brake overhaul was also conducted. Routine servicing was also carried out every year from 2012 when the current owner purchased the car. The vehicle has been used sparingly on weekends and only in fair weather with around 400 miles per year on average during the current ownership.

The most recent full inspection carried out on the vehicle was performed in in 2019, with no advisories or warnings being issued.

Included with the sale are the original Alfa Romeo stamped service book, 1970 Alfa Romeo guide to service locations, and 1750 GTV supplement, and a recent reprint of the original instruction book. There is also an original Webasto sunroof brochure.

This Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV is a charming and characterful Italian sports coupe, presented in very smart overall condition, and remains a highly original example. With solid mechanicals, a full interior trim and a respray, it is primed to excite and delight a new owner with its twin-cam engine in full song on the open road.
