1970 LANCIA 2000 BERLINA

This Lancia 2000 Berlina is a stylish Italian saloon, benefiting from considerable mechanical and cosmetic attention over the last eight years in particular. Its engine is a 2.0-litre Lancia flat-four boxer producing approximately 100bhp, driving the front wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 55,917 km (34,745 miles).

Despite being right-hand drive, this 2000 was originally an Italian market car, and was imported and first registered in the UK on 10 November 2006. The current vendor has owned the car for the last eight years, during which it has been comprehensively overhauled and refurbished where required – with bills totalling over £25,000.

Finished in dark blue, the Lancia benefited from a glass-out respray in 2017 at SB Autobody in Stanton Lacy, Ludlow. The paint finish is even throughout, with some minor stone chipping to the front end. The chromework around the glass and along the sills is in excellent condition, as are the light lenses and badging. There is some minor surface corrosion visible on the underside in the photos, though this is not believed to be requiring attention yet. The Cromodora eight-slot alloy wheels are in good condition with no kerbing marks. The original steel wheels are still with the car as well.

The Lancia’s interior is an appealing blend of comfort and elegance. The wooden-trimmed dashboard and steering wheel are in good order, with a charming patina. All of the switchgear is intact with no damage and a period style DAB radio with Bluetooth telephone connection has been added. The headlining presents well, as does the rear curtain blind.

During the vendor’s ownership, this handsome saloon car has been comprehensively maintained by Italian car specialist Tanc Barratt of Ludlow. In addition, a complete engine rebuild has been undertaken, as well as replacement of the carburettor with a more efficient Weber setup, with only 1,500 miles covered since then. The original carburettor, which is in working order, and the air filter assembly are included in the sale.

The most recent MOT test was on 25 April 2017 at 52,778 km (32,794 miles). Some minor surface corrosion on the underside and a small split in the nearside CV joint gaiter were mentioned as advisories, but the seller states that these have since been remedied. Due to the car’s age, it is exempt from mandatory annual MOT testing, although the current owner will hand over the car with a fresh MOT to the next owner. The wheels are shod in a set of Firestone tyres, which remain in great condition having covered less than 1,000 miles.

Now ready for its next enthusiast owner, the Lancia will be supplied with an original owner’s manual and workshop handbook, and a period brochure. Several original parts which have been replaced during the refurbishment work will also be included.

This Lancia 2000 Berlina is an attractive, partially restored example of a charming Italian saloon car.
