1970 JENSEN INTERCEPTOR MKII

This Jensen Interceptor is a well-presented example of an elegant British grand tourer, in very good mechanical order. Nestled under the bonnet is a 6.3-litre big-block Chrysler V8 engine, producing around 325bhp, driving the rear wheels through a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The odometer reads 76,221 miles.

First registered on 27 February 1970, this UK-market example has been enjoyed and maintained by the most recent private owner for the last 14 years. It is now offered for sale by the trade. This elegant British grand tourer was hand-built in West Bromwich, with the handsome bodywork penned by Carrozzeria Touring of Italy.

Finished in an eye-catching shade of blue, the finish displays a deep shine, still benefiting from a previous restoration. The vendor notes there is now some bubbling on the lower part of the bonnet, as well as slightly rippling in the front headlight wells. Some surface rust is also visible in the wheel arches and around the rear lower valance, while there is also a small dent in the driver’s door. Overall though, this is still a well presented classic car that exudes 1970s style.

The brightwork is mainly in excellent condition, with some light dents noted on the front and rear bumpers. Small stone chips are also present around the front end, but nothing that really detracts from this handsome grand tourer. The distinctive wraparound rear screen is in good condition, as is the vinyl roof and manual sunroof. The Interceptor rides on the 15-inch alloy wheels, which are in excellent order with no kerbing marks.

Inside, the Jensen has an interior befitting a classic GT car. Only minimal signs of usage are visible on the re-trimmed black leather seats, with the white piping adding a touch of brightness to the cabin. The carpets are also in good order, with the dashboard fixtures and interior metalwork also present. The vendor advises that there are no known faults with the interior fittings.

The last service was carried out in April 2019 at 74,885 miles. This entailed replacement of the V8’s spark plugs, as well as the engine oil and filter. In March 2018, the spark plugs, distributor, coil pack, alternator and regulator were all replaced at 74,883 miles – with an engine service also carried out. Prior to this, the spark plugs, engine oil and filters were again replaced in May 2017 at 74,836 miles.

A summary of the maintenance dates and mileages over the last 10 years is included below. The vendor reports that the engine starts and runs beautifully with a steady and deep tone via the exhaust. The automatic gearbox is also stated to be working well, shifting smoothly through the gears.

The most recent MOT test was on 21 October 2016 at 73,556 miles. This was a clean pass with zero advisories, which gives a good indication to the car’s overall condition. Due to the car’s age, it is now exempt from annual MOT testing.

The Jensen rides on matching Falken Ziex tyres with approximately 3mm of tread remaining. These are in good condition with no sidewall damage.

Now ready for its next owner, this British icon will be supplied with a selection of spare fluids and tools. In addition, the original Interceptor handbook and stacks of service history and supporting invoices will be included, as well as the original purchase documents from December 1969 – January 1970.

Combining American muscle with Italian styling and British craftsmanship, this Jensen Interceptor would make for the ideal cruiser on both Sunday drives and even continental road trips. It is presented in good condition throughout and benefits from a substantial history file, and now needs only some attention to the bodywork and paint to take it back up to a very high standard.
