1970 HONDA CB750

This 1970 Honda CB750 is a smart and highly original example of the ground-breaking Japanese classic. It is powered by a 67bhp 750cc inline-four, which is mated to a five-speed transmission. The odometer displays just 15,993 miles from new.

Seen by many as the world’s first superbike, the CB750 was introduced in 1969 to widespread praise, thanks to its reliability, performance and reasonable price. Furthermore, it also incorporated a number of innovative features, including an electric starter, disc brakes and of course its single overhead camshaft, four-cylinder engine.

First registered in July 1970, this particular CB750 is an early and desirable ‘K0’ model, which has been enjoyed by the seller for the last 20 years, with five previous keepers on the V5C.

Today, the bike remains in excellent cosmetic condition for its age. Finished with Candy Ruby Red metallic paintwork, the fuel tank and headlamp housing present very well, with a few minor chips and cracks, while the left-hand side panel beneath the seat has recently been resprayed and is in good order. As is to be expected given this CB750’s age and use, its black-painted frame features various marks and blemishes, but this does not detract from the bike’s impressive overall appearance. The brightwork, including the mirrors and mudguards presents very well, while the polished exhaust pipes have previously been replaced with new, genuine Honda items. Both of the wire wheels are in very good shape.

The seat has been replaced with a new, black vinyl-clad item, which shows no signs of wear, and the black rubber handlebar grips are also very smart, while the controls and gauges have a charming light patina. The vendor states that all of the switches and electrical items work without fault.

Having been serviced every year during the seller’s ownership, this CB750 is in excellent mechanical order, and it will be serviced again prior to its handover to its new owner. This CB750 will be accompanied by a small tool kit and its spare set of keys.

Although it is now exempt due to its age, the bike’s last MOT test was conducted on 7 April 2017 at 15,993 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass without a single advisory. Both wheels are wrapped in Continental Conti Blitz sport/cruising tyres, which the seller reports are in good condition.

Famed for its impressive and reliable four-cylinder engine, its innovative features and its engaging riding experience, the Honda CB750 represents a significant milestone in motorcycle design and manufacture. Routinely maintained and with low indicated mileage, this early ‘K0’ example is a fine example of the breed, and will make a superb addition to any collection of classic bikes.
