1970 FIAT 500L 'LUSSO'

This 1970 Fiat 500L ‘Lusso’ is a charming example of the Italian icon, presented in superb restored condition and an attractive period-correct colour scheme. Under the rear engine cover is the 499cc two-cylinder engine, which produces around 18bhp and is linked to a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 99,027 km.

As a high-end ‘Lusso’ model, this 500 features chrome bumper overriders at the front and rear, rectangular tail lights, ribbed vinyl seats and Veglia gauges, as well as front-hinged doors and a half-length retractable canvas roof.

First registered in July 1970, this original Italian-market example was acquired by its current two years ago, and is now offered for sale by the trade.

Fresh from a restoration, the bodywork is in great shape. As shown in the gallery, a number of corroded sections were cut out and fresh steel was welded in their place, ensuring that this classic Italian city car is now in solid, rust-free condition. Having been resprayed, the period-perfect Giallo Positano paintwork is also in wonderful shape, and has a bright and glossy appearance around the whole car. Furthermore, the brightwork has been polished to a high shine, and the black canvas roof is free of any rips, tears or signs of fading. The car rides on the correct set of 12-inch steel wheels, which feature polished hub caps and are in very good order.

Moving inside, the cabin has been retrimmed and presents very well indeed. The seats have been recovered in black vinyl, and show no signs of wear, and the same material has also been used to cover the door cards. Underfoot, new black carpet has been fitted throughout, and is protected by a set of over-mats with vibrant yellow edging. The textured black dashboard is also in impressive condition, and the patinated steering wheel further enhances the car’s classic charm. All of the controls work without fault.

As with its cosmetic items, this 500’s mechanical components have been fully overhauled, with work completed in February 2021. It was then submitted for a Revisione roadworthiness inspection, which it passed without a single warning. All four wheels are fitted with brand new tyres, which remain unworn.

Cosmetically and mechanically restored to a high standard, this Fiat 500 ‘Lusso’ is a wonderful example of the classic Italian city car. Packed with period charm and offered in excellent condition, this little runabout is ready to be driven and enjoyed, and is sure to bring a smile to its next owner’s face at every opportunity.
