1970 ALFA ROMEO GIULIA SPRINT GTA TRIBUTE

KEY FACTS

• A superb Giulia Sprint GTA tribute, which was crafted in 2014 from a 1750 GTV bare shell with a raft of new or refurbished parts.
• It is powered by an uprated 2.0-litre twin-cam ‘Nord’ engine, producing around 160bhp, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox.
• The shell was strengthened and the body converted to feature lightweight GRP panels by Bob Wright of Alfapanels.

 EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• The build was based upon an original UK-market right-hand drive 1750 GT Veloce, which was first registered in July 1970.
• Its 2.0-litre Nord engine comprises Weber 40 DCOE carburettors with solid billet mounts, Piper 285/2 camshafts, NGK Iridium spark plugs, a ported head, a re-cored early-type radiator, a 123 distributor and a polished crank and rods, with new pistons, liners, oil seals, gaskets, valves, a new water pump and a lightweight starter motor.
• It is linked to a GTA manifold and exhaust system, a lightened steel flywheel, a Sachs clutch and renewed electrics.
• The five-speed gearbox was freshly rebuilt with new mounting rubbers and a new prop-shaft coupling.
• A recently rebuilt 2000 GTV axle was purchased from Classic Alfa, which was installed and fitted with new brake discs with Ferodo pads and 2000 GTV calipers, also featuring new brake and clutch master and slave cylinders, a replacement single servo and new front wheel bearings.
• It was also fitted with a new steering box, with a new drag link and tie rods.
• On the outside, it features a GRP composite lightweight front and rear wings, front and rear panels, doors, boot lid, boot floor and underwing splash plates.
• There is also a GTA-style registration plate light plinth, grille, number plate lamps and lockable GTA style door handles, plus Giulia Sprint-style indicators and replacement headlights.
• The underbody was given a full Waxoyl treatment, along with new fuel piping front to rear, a new fuel tank and copper brake and clutch pipes.
• Inside, it has been fitted with retro Recaro front seats with leather outer panels and perforated centres, while the rear leather seats have been refurbished.
• New headlining and door cards have been fitted, along with a new sill carpet and full size rubber mats from Classic Alfa, a lightweight composite dashboard and an original-style GT tunnel cover.
• The wheels are brand-new 15-inch GTA alloys from Alfaholics, with Yokohama tyres.
• It has a new Alfaholics fast road handling kit with lowered springs, lightweight spring pans, adjustable top arms, a 29mm front anti-roll bar, Koni adjustable shock absorbers and renewed bushes.
• It will be accompanied by a description of the restoration, various maintenance invoices, a scissor jack and wheel nut spanner, and a set Kangol magnetic seal belts that were removed upon fitment of inertial reel alternatives.

CONDITION

• No known bodywork damage. The shell has been modified from the original GTV style with added strengthening plus lightweight GRP panels.
• Its resprayed red paintwork is in excellent overall condition, with a few minor blemishes.
• Small stone chips can be seen on the bonnet, nearside door, roof and nearside rear wheel arch, along with a minor blemish to the front valance.
• Inside, the driver’s seat bolster is slightly worn, while the glovebox interior trim is missing, and the dashboard trim fascia would benefit from being realigned and reaffixed.
• The speedometer is not fully accurate, the oil pressure gauge is inoperative, and the boot is missing its hinge springs.
• The most recent MOT test was on 2 November 2017 at 70,873 miles, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

• Its most recent service was in May 2021 at 74,300 miles, where the owner changed the engine oil and coolant.
• Prior to this, another self-service was performed in August 2020, with fresh engine oil, a new oil filter, sump plug and spark plugs.
• During the vendor’s ownership, the car has been fitted with a new airbox, filters and gaskets, a GTA rear exhaust section without silencer and a refurbished cylinder head with new valves, guides and gaskets, alongside a fast road suspension kit and lightweight wheels from Alfaholics.

SUMMARY

This Alfa Romeo is a superb Giulia Sprint GTA tribute, with various period-correct features and which has been very well maintained since its refurbishment and lightweight conversion. It presents in very good mechanical order, and is ready for to enjoy on the open road or the track.
