1969 LAND ROVER SERIES IIA 88"

This Land Rover Series IIa is a charming classic 4x4, presented in excellent condition following a comprehensive nut-and-bolt rebuild. Under the bonnet is a 2.2-litre inline-four petrol engine, with four-wheel drive via a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 6,472 miles, though this is not believed to be correct.

An original UK-market Land Rover, it was first registered on 14 August 1969, and now has eight previous keepers on the log book. The last change of keeper is recorded as being in May 2019, though the vendor states that it was in the last ownership for five years, so it is assumed it passed between family members or between a business and personal name.

This Series IIa presents in superb condition, following a complete restoration that included a new galvanised Richards chassis, so there are no structural issues to worry about. It was treated to a full repaint in a classic green hue, and the metal body elements such as the bumpers, cappings and windscreen were also re-galvanised before re-fitting. The vendor states that it was a nut-and-bolt rebuild in the truest sense, with attention to detail even extending to use of the correct rivets and fixings. Rounding off the refurbishment, the Land Rover was given a brand new sand-coloured fabric soft top and a new hood frame.

The cabin of this Series IIa is in equally impressive order, with the three front seats still looking pristine after a full re-trim. Ahead of the driver is the correct type steering wheel, and the buttons and toggle switches are all in good order. The Jaeger instrument dials in the centre console appear to be original. In the load bay, there are matching bench seats, and a durable rubber liner to protect the floor. There are no faults reported with any of the electrics.

The vendor reports that the mechanicals were rebuilt around 2,000 miles ago, and also that a new engine was fitted during the overhaul. Its inline-four starts easily, and runs well, and the transfer box and gearbox are both in good working order - the latter being refurbished during the restoration.

The Land Rover is exempt from mandatory annual MOT tests on the basis of age, but will be handed over to its next owner with a full service to ensure it is ready to enjoy straight away. All of the tyres were also renewed, so are in excellent condition with plenty of tread.

This Land Rover Series IIa is an iconic utility vehicle, which represents the definitive 4x4 shape in many people’s minds. While it has been thoroughly refurbished, this is a practical and reliable car that could readily be put into service as a ‘workhorse’. Of course, it could simply be savoured for occasional use, and would make for charming winter transport.
