1969 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 2 ROADSTER

Finished in gleaming Signal Red with cream leather piped in red, this 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Roadster is a handsome example powered by a 4.2-litre straight-six engine with triple SU carburettors, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh.

From the second year of Series 2 production, this example was originally delivered overseas. An official letter in the file from Jaguar Cars Limited confirms that it was completed on 21 November 1969, and subsequently exported to British Leyland New York (B.L.N.Y.) in the US. The original State of Colorado vehicle title slip is included in the history file, which indicates that this is where the car resided during its time in North America.

At some point between 1990 and 1991, it was imported to the UK and subsequently converted to right-hand drive. The first UK owner is recorded on the old title transfer slip as Martin Johnson, a Cumbria-based collector who once owned the ex-Dan Gurney AAR-102 Eagle F1 car. It has been owned by the seller for the last 13 years. He has invested a significant amount in bringing the car up to a superb standard, and has enjoyed around 3,000 behind the wheel. Today, the odometer indicates 82,366 miles from new.

The gorgeous Signal Red paintwork shows a deep gloss and the bodywork presents with crisp shut lines and impressive chrome work. The seller reports very few blemishes in the paint, which has evidently been refreshed to a high standard. Internal painted areas such as door shuts and the fuel filler area appear in good condition, and the black soft top roof presents very well.

Under the bonnet, the engine bay is tidy and appears free of corrosion, while inside the boot area there is some aging and marks to the paint. The chrome wire wheels are in excellent condition, and the seller states that the whitewall tyres are new.

Moving inside, the cream leather interior is in great condition and the red piping complements the exterior. The seller states that the car has been reupholstered, and as such the seats show very little wear. New seat belts have been fitted with Jaguar-branded clasps.

The car is presented with an extensive service history file, and interesting early paperwork revealing its US provenance. Its most recent maintenance was just a few weeks ago, when it received a 6,000-mile service at AutoRevive in Uxbridge. A new radiator and petrol gauge were also fitted at the same time, and it comes with a fresh set of tools.

A fine example of the archetypal classic British sports car, this Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Roadster is a beautiful roadster in superb cosmetic and mechanical condition, which is ready to relish with the top down in warm summer months.
